Do they think we're morons?

  1. Sigh.

Did you not bother to read what I wrote before? The reason is not that
I could somehow frustrate Gods plan (I can't) but that I might be
opposing what God has mandated by my choice of candidate.
    I have explained that before.

  2. Ah - the GWB option. "I know what Gods plan is and I'm going to invade
Iraq to make it come to fruition"..

Firstly - no spirit direction (I assume you mean some 'special
knowledge' given by direct action of the spirit.)

Secondly - thee is a disconnect between mans ambitions and Gods design.
Trying to reconcile the two would be impossible.

  3. He does - he expects me to chose to do the things that he approves of.
Because there are two principles here that make it fairly clear:

The control of human society rests in the hands of God. For Gods
followers to take that into their own hands is presumptious folly.

Gods followers are citizens of Gods Kingdom - not the kingdoms of men.
And as such they have no right to get involved in the politics of
humanity just as you would have no right to be involved in the politics
    of (say) India.

  4. And how do you reach that conclusion?
Largely because when the Bible was written there was no such thing as a
    democracy[1].

The Bible doesn't specifically say that cannibalism is forbidden either
    - but you won't find me eating people.

All things are possible. It's just that some are less probable than
    others.

So God, who loves all of his children (even if they practice another
faith, or not at all) had a plan which involved 6 million of his
children being gassed, tortured, starved or shot to death - all for
    the creation of Israel, etc?

Without the holocaust there wouldn't have been any particular need for
the setting up of Israel. Does he really hate Palestinians too?

All sounds like the most almighty cop-out to me. Just as well you get
to abdicate your moral conscience as well, or I'd wonder how you
could go to sleep at night.
If you're afraid to vote in case it contradicts His plans, you're not
using those gifts to determine them very well, are you.

  7. Not in words of one syllable - I agree. What they do establish is a
principle that can then be applied to how we interact with human
    government.
Which line would that be? The "being in the world but not of it"?

What do you think it means?
Well - they do indeed mean that. Which cover a very very wide area.

I don't think Phil believes in a benevolent God, so no doubt the end
justifies the means. Personally I think this God's a bit shit as a
manager and could probably benefit from going on a few person management
    courses...

  11. Well - given the fact that I don't believe in heaven-going I'd be
    surprised..

    No.

    Nothing, it would seem.

A quote springs to mind, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is
for good men to do nothing"

Every time you buy a product or express a preference, you are involving
yourself in the politics of humanity.

By deciding to get the bus, you might keep a route open, that lets the
pensioner get to the Post Office, so she gets her money, so she can pay the
gas bill and doesn't die of hypothermia.

By riding a bike instead of buying an MG car, you may have been the tipping
point that made the plant uneconomic, and hence thousands of people lose
    their jobs.

Everything you or anyone else does that interacts with other
people/places/property has a tangible influence in the politics of humanity.
Cause and effect and all that. Simply choosing not to vote as it's has a
more obvious link is, I repeat, an utter cop-out.
