Over speeding tickets and the like

.... and what systems do they use on motorways, distance averaging or
    simple radar ?

.... and is it true that they can detect radar detectors ?

  2. AFAIUI, they're still not allowed to, but can dole out local fines, points
and bans but not add points to UK licences.

Over here (SW France) they have the traditional handheld/tripod variety
radars(they hide round corners with the device very low and hard to see) and
the static tend to be big grey forward facing units that look like service
droids from Star Wars with yellow black stripes round the edge.

My understanding on radar detectors is that they can't detect them but if
they find you with one yr fucked.

If there's a static camera there'll be a very big sign in a reasonably short
distance before it warning that there are "Controles frequents"

If there's a mobile unit and/or a plain gendarme stop point the oncoming
traffic tend to flash frantically anyway.

If yr too thick to notice either you deserve to get done

Not always. I've seen front facing ones, but also saw a rear facing one on
the way to Calais the other day.

The Belgians have[1] to put a sign out when they set up a mobile speed
trap but any I've seen would appear to have been designed and procured
in the 30's when traffic was more sedate. In other words, you're not
    likely to spot the sign.

[1]Or, at least, used to. It may have changed recently.

  6. There are those nice forward-facing cameras on that long boring road
    from Cambrai to Sedan.

I think *everyone* made a point of zapping through them at 100mph-plus,
    with the traditional digit extended.

Of course, by the time the high-speed convoys had gone through, the
police were alerted and the latecomers found the road swarming with le
    Plod.

No, there's quite a few rear-facing ones as well now.
    Quite right too.

AIUI, there are agreements in place within the EU, as well as between
France and CH, that allow for the possibility of fine-chasing, but
they're not yet implemented. Certainly the French don't chase
Swiss-plated vehicles over radar flashes yet.
TYVM. They had one about 200m along the road from our house a few
weeks ago - used to be a 70 limit, went down to 50 last year cos
they're building new houses between the two bits of village. So I
didn't get a chance to be flashed by oncoming traffic.

Cunts kept me waiting for 20 fucking minutes while writing the ticket,
including having to write it twice 'cos the newby twat doing it forgot
to insert all the carbon paper. I refrained from telling them I didn't
want or need a copy (having already paid the on-the-spot fine), as it
would only have made them worse, but I did make a point of screwing it
up into a ball as soon as they eventually handed it to me.

Not only do the Belgians not put up a sign, they hide their cars and/or
cameras so it's difficult to spot them.
Or they park in a lay-by and put the bonnet up (look everybody, I've
broken down - not) and the camera at the front of the car.

Or they tuck in a queue of traffic and flash you as you go past

They then overtake you and take a photo of the passenger ...

    dumb fucks !

    We'll see
