Do tank-bag magnets mess with hard-drive mp3 players?

Do tank-bag magnets mess with hard-drive mp3 players? Just got the
20-gig iRiver, pretty nice toy. Hoping I can safely stow it in the
tank-bag, but worried that the hard-drive won't like being so close to
six big magnets. Anybody have any info? TIA!

Some bags have shielded magnets, which might be safe.

I wouldn't trust my $500 toy to them though.

I'd worry more about the vibration of being, basically, "as one" with
    a bike frame.

A friend was forced to carry a laptop that ran Windows. he couldn't
heal it with certain well known free oses. So he kept it in the tank
bag. The thing got beaten to hell, but the drive never really had
a problem. It *did* die a couple times but always from vibrational
stuff. He's now got a strapped down bag (seems his old bag just slid
off that new bike what with no metal).

That said, my pocket holds an iPod pretty well. And my laptop
goes on my back - even if nothing else is in the knapsack or
wrapped in a towel for padding top back bag inside a padded
    knapsack.

  4. It must depend on the tank bag. I have an RKA magnetic tank bag and
have tossed my wallet in it for day rides many times. Haven't had a
single card go bad yet. The RKA's magnets are all in the flaps, not
    directly under the bag.

I agree. I have a Marsee magnetic tankbag and have been putting my wallet
in it for a really long time now with no ill effects. I suppose it could be
because I keep it in the plastic pocket on the top flap of the bag instead
of inside, right next to the magnets? Or maybe it doesn't make that much
    difference?
