  2. Hmmm. I replied to this last nite but I can't see my post or any replies.
I get 200-220 around town. Not silly high revs but a fair bit of open
throttle. The novelty of having 100 horsies hasn't worn off yet. Strangely
enough the rear tyre has lasted 7000k and has a bit left. It seems to slide
and not tear itself up much. I do always warm the bike up before going
anywhere so this isnt going to help fuel economy either. Quickest I've run
out fo juice was ~180k's after some quite high speed stuff.

UB> You actually save more money buy using good fuel. Not only do you get
UB> better mileage, and hence instant savings, the engine will last a bit

By golly, the urban myths are flying today...

If you're not sure about what fuel to use, check the bike's handbook. It
will state the minimum RON to use. If it says 91 or higher, then ULP is
    fine.

As for saving dough using "good fuel", that has not been my experience
with 2 different cars and two different bikes. I've compared Optimax to
the standard Shell unleaded. Only difference was a higher fuel bill for
    using Optimax...

It really depends on the type of vehicle you are using, my Honda Accord gets
a consistent 10% better economy with Optimax as the Honda has the
appropriate electronics to utilise the better fuel efficiently, it also has
better power and idles smoother with PULP.

If the extra fuel cost is an issue use the cheaper stuff.

My BMW bikes are all fed PULP only so I really can not tell the difference.

    Yup.
Mind you there was some other joker in the pic too. You coulda said his name
    instead of J.A.!
    Just kidding.
Thought ther mighta been a few bikes in the pic but!
How friendly are you with J.A.? Does he ride a bike?

    I use normal ULP.
This is because PULP causes the bike to idle worse... ie, when not
comprehensively warmed up by screaming through some twisties, the engine
will die unless I constantly give it some revs...
Why is this? A technical explanation appreciated.
Logically, I just run ULP, which causes the bike to idle nicely. (Except
Caltex.... evil people...) Anyone know what Aus Post themselves use?

I know that with a 5.5 L tank this question is perhaps academic (irrelevant
in the circumstances, a lovely insult for any lecturer...) but I is
    wondering all the same.
(While constantly dreaming of a bigger bike... bring on full time
    employment!)

    Cheers,

I saw a postie fill up and hand the attendant a Shell card once.. believe it
or not that was in a Shell petrol station. Could be something in that, or
maybe they each post office makes arrangements with a petrol station
convenient for their posties. Pat'll know.

And exactly what difference does it make? I assume that you keep fuel
    logs?

I don't commute, or really ride in traffic at all on this bike. It's all
    8000rpm+ ;-)

    ROTFLMAO !!

Most cars don't have knock sensors, I've not heard of any bikes that do. If
there is one it's probably a BMW. Tell me the part number for the FJR's knock
    sensor and I'll believe you...

    JL

ECU will have a knock sensor. People talking of engine
