DMV SKILL TEST

  1. Maybe not, but sportbikers certainly aren't immune to it.

Personally, I just don't get it. I can't see the appeal of making a
    bike louder.

  2. Ever hear the saying "Loud pipes save lives"? I can assure you I have
been in situations on my quiet little zuki bike where the cager did see
or hear me.. and my little tweep tweep horn didnt help either.

I have loud(er) pipes on my bike now, because I know people can hear
it.. The bass tones of louder pipes are more noticable.

When cagers are involved I do everything possible to make sure they know
I'm there and then I still assume they do not see me.

  3. I wasn't going to dignify that bullshit mantra with a mention, but what
    the hey.

Loud pipes earn tickets. With the state in need of more revenue, I
hope they nail every single one of you losers. The most offensive
ones out there rattle windows and set off car alarms. Well over 100
decibels and I live on the third floor. It's not like they have much
to fear in Noe Valley at that hour - they could roll on the gas
    and slowly leave us.

  4. Thats not french.

In my own experience, having loud(er) pipes have made me more noticable.
I'm not saying have pipes that rattle the windows 3 blocks down. But
anything is better than the pipes that come stock on most jap bikes.
Not all cruiser riders are anti-social. My bike is a V-Twin cruiser,
and look at me. I'm socializing.
Headlamp modulators work fine too.. If you are behind someone.. They
don't do much for when you are riding in the lane next to someone.

The anger is strong with this one...

I could be wrong, but I don't think I have ever ridden past your house.
My bike is somewhat louder than stock, but it's not HD LOUD, getit? I
live in a high density area and have not had a complaint from my
neighbors because I cool it in the park.

    Cheers,

  7. I have aftermarket pipes on my Suzuki Intruder. And it
    is indeed loud.

But, I have to admit, most accident involved cagers
usually say "I didn't see the rider" and not "I didn't hear the rider"

The way some cagers crank up their stereos, I can see at least *one*
    benefit. ;-}

I don't "hate" people because of their choice of motorcycle. I do tend
to sneer at profilers and people who buy into "image in a box."
I don't much care for veneers; I prefer people who are honest,
comfortable with themselves and their identity. American pop culture is
kind of distasteful (I said POP culture, not to be confused with the
real thing!) and accessorizing with an overpriced, underperforming
motorcycle is just kind of lame. Sure, Harleys look cool! As art, I
appreciate their style. You can even ride them if you appreciate form
over function. The people who do just aren't my favorite demographic.

The rice rocket boys and girls are much more likely to wave at you on
the road. They're much more likely to come up and have a friendly
conversation in a cafe. RUBs tend to snob around together and ignore us
lower forms of moto life. Maybe they're afraid we'll disrespect them for
dressing alike and hanging around together playing 50s biker outlaw on
    the weekend.

Heh...of course they like it when you admire their bling-bling bike! Why
do you think they dumped all that money into it?

    Think freeeway.

I don't ride next to people on the freeeway, either!
You always need an escape route.

Yea, the assholes lose the loud pipe arguement as soon as they spout their
bullshit to people who know better. If you spent half the time learning to
ride that pig as you spent polishing your knobs, you'd know how to stay out
of the way. If you are relying on others to sse or hear you, you have
automatically identified yourself as a moron without a clue, without a bike
with the ability to manuever, and without the common sense to know that you
    are an asshole.

I *think* he means the modulators do nothing for someone in the lane
next to you. Not in the lane with you. I could be wrong tho.

  16. so you don't live in the SF bay area or any other major metropolis?

its impossible to avoid being 'next' to other vehicles at least part of
the time on congested multilane roads.

  18. I'm sorry Barbz, I assumed you where smart enough to realize that there
are other forms of streets out there.. Like freeways. Do I have to
spell everything out for you? Your blondness is seeping through your
posts my friend. Besides I didn't post here to make enemies with you.
All I am getting out of you is insults.

  19. Hmm If you are in the left lane, there is going to be someone in the
right lane. If you are in the right lane, there is going to be someone
    in the left lane.

I think you just like to argue.
