OK, I was rather hoping you were in the darkest North, I have loads of
mates in the Oslo/lysaker area however they are all lightweight city types
with no experiance of the wilds of the North.

    Well, some semi-lightweight suburban types have travelled a bit . . .

There are lots of histories about motoring up north. One I am not 100%
sure of the authenticy of is when two snowmobile riders allegedly
collided head on, on a vast snow-covered plain. Both expected the other
rider to give way. Alternative target fixation?

I am after insider information on the North West roads, the guys I know
tend to look on the journey to Torp as an adventure and Bergen as being in
    a different time zone
They are not unique, when I was learning to paraglide we were told to aim
for the far corner of a distant field, my canopy went over the wall I was
so close, and the other two guys ended up in a ditch on the other side,
one went on to hit the only tree for 1Km the following day, true target
fixation, you are supposed to turn to the right in the vent of potential
collision, I have used the desperate scream of "get out of the fucking
way" approach on more than one occasion.

**** that, I was scratching, if I had turned right I would have moved
away from the hill lost the lift and had a *VERY* long walk back up.

  6. I know for a fact it happened to two vehicles in an otherwise empty
    Iranian desert, circa 1971.

  9. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember
    (ts) saying something like:
There are plenty of stories of supertankers and bulk carriers doing the
same on wide open seas in perfect weather with nothing else in sight.

North West being something like Moere & Romsdal county, or Nordland?
Whatever I might say about those roads may be out of date by now, but
there should be lots of local advice available. I've seen several trip
reports in e.g. the Norw. BMW Owners Club Journals, many of which can be
    downloaded by following links from

And you have of course checked out no.alt.motorsykler? They also used to
have links to recommendable roads on their web site (something like
"www.nam.hyssing.net" but no guarantee), but I haven't visited it while
living in the UK. Noe med å forebygge hjemlengsel . . ?
    Surely lots of amusing memories.

But opposed to the autopilot supertanker stories, the hands-on ones are
mostly due to testosterone-fueled aggression, and death-defying
determination. I'll show that ****ing bastard who owns this
    mountain/desert/other area.

Thanks - my Norwegian is fairly limited, however I am sure half an hour of
clicking and shouting to SWMBO will put me in the right area.
I am not sure I could miss 1 metre of snow in a night and studded tyres
until May, it is already getting cold over there, even in the South.

no.alt.motorsykler will be usefull, they seem like normal people unlike
    some local groups

    Cheers
