The A428 to St Neots, from Bedford, was closed this morning......
bugger. So I have to go to work via the back roads.

I get past 2 cars and then a transit on the twisty bits. Happily
bimbling along I see a 90 degree right hander ahead, slow down using
the gears, still a bit too fast, apply back brake - it locks up and
I'm sideways along the road, do this 2 or 3 more times and I'm still
going too fast and heading for the verge ahead <gulp>

The next thing I know, I'm on my back in a ditch with about a foot of
    water lapping around my nads!

The van driver has stopped as I get out of the ditch.............
dripping and muttering. He helps me lift the Pan and I survey the
damage. The rhs indicator/mirror is smashed beyond recognition, but
    everything else is just muddy.

The rest of the journey is a leeeeeetle bit slower and I arrive at the
shop, wet, muddy and very annoyed with myself. 24 years riding bikes
and I still can't go around corners!

The new mirror, is going to cost me £140

    Still, coulda bin worse.

    Yawl ride safely now!

Heh, sorry.. I had to chuckle at this a bit. :)
Phew, well lucky I'd say. How did you get the Pan out of the ditch, I
presume it didn't go rubber side up.
Oh yes, easily. I think that now, you'll have to have a DS#, Molly is KotL.
I try, some days more than others.

    Oh.

I thought Ivan was King of the brake-pad savers.

I've got to replace the pads on the Wing already, ffs.

I only changed them in March.

That'll be fun, then: new pads, and a new disc.

Having taken the old ones out this afternoon, I'm surprised it stopped

    Erm, why?[/QUOTE]

Because I wanted to slow down.

ffs, what is this obsession some people have with *not* using their
    back brake?

It gives me more braking power than using the front alone. So what's
    the problem with that?

To set the record straight, I did use the front brake too. I only
mentioned the rear brake because it was that that locked. Frankly I'd
rather the back locked than the front because, IMHO. it's more
controllable. Plus I have a paranoia about the front skidding away
from me - a problem in my head rather than with the stopping power of
    the bike.

they can proly get any colour.
