Damn, just read yours after I posted mine. Yours is class, mine is a poor,
    poor attempt.

    Probable/possible fnord?

    What follows is utter bollocks.

One reaction is 'Aww, teh millytree fluffeh tiem' tug at those heartstrings,
show how caring and compassionate we are. Oft these stories arise during
times of war, insurgence, political/financial instability etc to allow one
to focus on a single humanitarian aspect and thus exclude the rather less
    savoury aspects for a time.

We can often sit through news stories of ( to our eyes/ears ) hardship
brought about by natural disaster, war, famine etc and remain immune to it.
A lot of folk cannot comprehend what life must be like etc and thus, as it
doesn't fit with their continuity, it passes them by. Now add in a single
humanitarian story to the end of a news broadcast and folk can focus again
as the breadth of the subject is within their cognition. This may pique
curiosity in the preceeding events, or may just leave a 'fluffeh tiem' warm
feeling that all is indeed well with the world. This is a palliative as
most folk would go with the latter rather than expose themselves to the
truth that the world is not fluffy.

Another reaction is that is staged. This one is usually favoured by
conspiracy theorists and cynics. Generally, conspiracy theorists construct
such elaborate theories without even considering that most gubmints can
**** up even the simplest of tasks, so how the hell are they going get a
    conspiracy to go right?

Why stage?, well, make the world seem fluffy and the show the West in a
    glowing, cuddly, caring way.

If you can make the 'enemy' seem really bad in the supporting text or
commentary as well, then bravo. The fnord has bitten. Cynics dismiss it as
simple media pandering, bowing to the will to show Western forces in a good
light. Imagine a sneering put down of the picture.

My reaction was initially cynical, but then, as a father of four, it got an
aww followed by 'what is going to happen to the kid?, her family are all
dead'. This was followed by more cynicism. I half expect some reality T.V.
series following the childs life through rehab and adoption/care.

Or, he could be grooming from a very young age, as some else pointed out :)

As has been eloquently pointed out by people far more worthy, what the
hell is there to have an opinion about? You've yet to offer one
    yourself.
