I have, after fifteen years, broken my vow and bought another disc lock.

Anyone want to place a bet on how long it is before I repeat what I did
    before I made the vow?

Should I get a price for replacement discs and calipers now, or wait til
    the need arises?

I put mine on the rear disc. The rear caliper and swing arm are
tougher than the plastic front mudguard.

That's what I used to do.

Cost me a new disc and chain adjuster, that did.

Not fitting it in the first place is so much easier.
    Yeahbut, you're an idiot.

If it makes you feel better a mate did that, but he'd also attached said
    chain to a lamp post.

A bike went from outside my office the night before last (all caught on

So I figure it's about time I made a token gesture to at least make the
thieving sods skip my bike and take the next one along.

Always park nose in, so you have to back up a bit before you get a
chance to use the twisty thing.

Human stupidity suggest that they don't work. A lady I know drove off
in her car with one of those clamps that goes between the steering
wheel and in this case the brake pedal. The humour factor was
slightly reduced because the car was parked in a parking bay and she
only managed to run into the car in front of her.

  18. Another solution is to have purchased a XENA disc lock, which has
alarm in. Meant to be added security feature but has motion sensor and
alerts rider long before you gaet in gear and attempt to move machine.
They dont like rain and do use batteries, but ive used one for 4
years. Served me well, it has.

    Sigh.

And two weeks ago the batteries started to die, and it beeps
constantly. My stockpile of said betteries was exhausted so last
monday week i took the dying ones out to stop it beeping.
On last tuesday week, i jumped aboard, selected 1st and gave it a
    fistful.

Oh the rage...... lifted fully fuelled bird up by "the wrong method"
    on adrenoline.

One snapped aluminium caliper hanger (20 euro off scrapped machine at
    local dealer)
One bent rhs front disc (150 stg +vat + shipping)
    Fitted the above this tuesday.
New batterys acquired and fitted to XENA device immediately.

Still feel a complete dork, but praise be for R+G...

For the less gay look, just get a bit of plastic cable outer. Keep it
on your disk lock key. When you put the disk lock on, move the bit of
plastic to your ignition key. Worked for me, at least until I got an
    alarm with keyless start.
