So those would be pretty good then, considering they have both front and
side facing LEDS and allegedly put out 240 000 MCD...

Does it still light up the number plate?

Without knowing for definite the actual measured viewing angle
it would be difficult to compare the two, but the fact that
they've mounted side-pointing LEDs shows that side visibility
may well be a problem with those that don't have them.

If you're desparate to replace the stock bulbs then they would
indeed be the better choice on that site.

Whether or not it is sufficient for contruction and use regs of lighting
a registration plate is an entirely different matter, and, at a guess,
if the LED is red, no, if white, maybe.

I have seen led bulbs that do what you require though - ie 24 white or
red led's facing backwards for stop/tail plus a few white LED's pointing
    downwards for reg plate illumination.

Please go with the normal bulbs. As stated in posts above, the light
is thrown out in mostly one direction, meaning if you're right behind
someone with LED lights you're blinded at night[1]. So not only does
it look well bling yo, it pisses off some people.

If these are your goals then you've gone down in my estimation.

[1] or at least, I am. I hate all new BMWs and especially those
massive range-rover things. You can guarantee that they don't know
where the handbrake is at traffic lights, so they just sit there, foot
on the brake. Arses the lot of 'em.

I've tried a couple, and they're not 'brilliant' (pun intended). I've got
one in the rear of my Hog at the moment and TBH although the bulb obviously
draws a lot more current, it is with out doubt, far brighter than the LED
type, with a far better viewing angle.
The one I'm using is from ultraleds (stop/tail version with reflector LED's
as well!), and is supposed to be the superior model, nothing better ILTB,
    and it cost a fortune.

How wide a viewing angle does it have to be? The things behind you
looking at it are all sharing similar vectors and sums and stuff and as
long as it shines more or less straight backwards then what is the
    issue?

Besides you will be over the horizon and gone from living memory soon
enough anyway. Well perhaps you won't but you know what I mean.

I've got a DL1000 Chris - Bling doesn't live in even the same country :)

    I want a brighter light.

Do you put your foot on the brake and hold it there instead?

No, I let it roll backwards until it hits something solid. Far easier.

Doesnotcompute scribbled on the back of a napkin:
I had one of their '+50%' white ones on the Husky as it kept shaking
    the normal bulbs apart.

Worked fine, illuminated both the rear light and the number plate
    sufficiently well.

The viewing angle affects how much light hits the reflector, hence how
bright and how large the light is seen from behind. The led ones at a
distance only look like a small spot compared to a bulbs light bouncing
    around the reflector.
I may be Grey, but that doesn't make me that old as to be booking my coffin
slot, and I still have my own hair and teeth ;)

They stick out from the bulb holder too far and the array of LED's are
well away from any reflection that the reflector in the rear light unit
gives, they are only bright when ye look straight on at 'em, and the
reflector inside the light unit matters a lot. So they are not very
    good. IMO

There seems to be a consensus forming. TBH I haven't noticed any on the
road and assumed from this that their natural market was the Dry Miles
Persuasion and thus the product was in all likelihood total crap. Nice
to be right for a change.

Too many years of excessive use of mobile phones and transmitters seems to
have taken it's toll on the rest of the contents.
