Dilema

  1. I had a race licence, but didn't need a medical. That was about 10 years
    ago though.

I just read the ACU application form Andy mentioned. I'm going to need
a medical because of my TIA.

You only need a medical if the ACU say you need one after you've
submitted your licence application. Obviously they rely on the
applicant being honest when they fill the form in and in the case of
Loz they might ask for a medical due to him having had problems with
    his heart.

They might also have a closer look if he admits to having had problems
with his vision even though he's got it sorted now.

None of this stops you having a licence, it just makes the application
    take a bit longer.

They might limit me to only doing something pikey where you run against
the clock and not other competitors, like Hill-Climbs

Just do it. I don't regret it, despite not realising my potential due
to starting to late in life and when I couldn't afford to do it
    properly.

IME riding reasonably fast is relatively easy. Passing people who
don't want to be passed is the hard bit. Demon braking in to hairpins
    eventually has the inevitable result.

    OI!
Champ took up the challenge. Time for you to do a give it a go meeting
    next year.
You woyldn't be the first circuit rider to find it isn't as easy as it
looks and those shite singles aren't as slow as you think.

    20 years ago you needed a medical, now it's self-cert - a set of
questions you answer yourself. You only need a medical if you answer
    yes to any of them.

    The form is here:
    http://www.acu.org.uk/uploaded/documents/SinglePages.pdf

I dunno the detials of Lozzo's medical history, but it's possible he
might fall foul of the first couple - only he will know.

I know for sure that you won't come last. You won't be winning
    either, of course :)

It sounds to me like you've already talked yourself into it, and as
others have said, you absolutely should do it. The diff with track
days is you're out there to push as hard as you can for every corner
for the whole 6/8 laps. That gives you a buzz that can't be equalled,
    imo.

And you can always do a couple of meetings, then stop if you're not
    enjoying it.

You may be able to answer yes and give details which may satisfy them
without a medical. I have to declare my hypertension medication and my
operation for a partial retina detachment years ago. But then as Lozzo
said that's just for a pikey hillclimbing licence.

If you reckon I should have a go, then I really owe it to myself to do
    so.

I didn't realise how many they'd nail you on and whereas for one or
two you could opt for selective memory you might have a problem if
they ever got wind of exactly how bad your memory was.
It might be for the best.

Looking at the Doc's report (Section 5) "In general, a heart attack or
serious cardio-vascular disease would normally exclude a rider from
speed events." would suggest that you may be out of luck.

What was that night that required the use of WFO driving tactics into
    Beford Hospital all about, then?

Have a look at the licence application and tell me which part of
section 3 Q4 is confusing you.
