Riding along the boulevard on the way to work, could smell a strong presence
    of diesel around.
Thought the worst and expected to find a truck overturned up ahead. But
glanced over my left shoulder during a right-hander and then noticed the
diesel spillage. Nothing on the left handers only
    on the rights.

Half a kilometer up the road, there it was. An VicRoads utlity truck
literally spraying diesel, like a street cleaner, with every right turn.
Overtook the truck and made spraying gestures while pointing down to the
    left of the road.
Driver either didnt understand or didnt give a toss as he merrily continued
to pull the truck around brockie style and spray the road.

A bit of rain on the day and it would have been quite an interesting ride.

Which prompts me to think, if we are constantly exposed to these people who
need to fill their tanks to the brim, why dont the truck manufacturers
design their diesel tanks with overspill reservoirs.

Cars and bikes tend to leave much less of a mess when they're overfilled.

Sounds delightful. I guess it might just be a money saving feature.

that or they couldn't give a flying feck and it helps put a *tiny* bit more fuel in the tank?

So you stopped on the side of the road, whipped out your
trusty mobile phone, and called the cops and the RTA (or
VicRoads or whoever they are). Actually, the fireys too,
for good measure, since ultimately they're the ones who
    have to clean it up.

    You did, didn't ya?

I think that's because petrol evaporates much more quickly than diesel
and doesn't leave an oily residue.

At least that's my theory as to why diesel bowsers always look like a
    toxic waste dump.
