IME that goes for the cars as well, not only the bikes.

I thought all police cars were fitted with Xenon bulbs these days. A
useful indication if true. I'll except it's not particularly useful if
    not true though.

The one on my K75 seems pretty accurate against my GPS. Then again it
is an ex-plod bike with a calibrated speedo.

The one in my 735 over-reads by almost 10%.

Yup, my 535i did exactly the same. Haven't measured the 1100 speedo
    yet...

OK, I enjoyed the writing style. Loads of 'purple prose' description
with adjectives flowing possibly too freely. Somewhat similar to my
over-egged style when I was doing the WEA creative writing course.
She confessed. She does me something of an injustice. I used to read a
lot of fiction when I was younger. The only rime I can settle down to it
now is if the weather is bad and an internet connection is not
available. Winter evenings in front of the log-burning stove at 'the
chateau' will see me reading something and it is sometimes fiction. I am
re-reading some of Steinbeck at the moment (The Moon is Down, Cannery
Row etc.). A novel has to really 'grip' me or I will give up on it. The
ones I have enjoyed the most, comparatively recently, have been:

"A River Runs Through It", Norman Maclean (Fishing see)
"The Stream", Brian Clarke (No fishing, but an 'eco' story about the
    decline of a trout stream)
"England, England", Julian Barnes (No fishing at all)

    Iain Banks book
I went back and had a listen (I heart the internet) to the programme.
The 'writers are the worst people to read books' made me grin. p187
she said, I shall check later.

The split from his wife and the late submission of the work put some
bits in a different light. It did need a damn good editing.

  8. That's actually well within the 10% permitted by law.

Now look here, this phrase is being used more and more in ukrm[1] and I
know you're all trying to be post-modern-ironic or something but next
thing we know it will be common usage, added to the Oxford Dictionary
of Phrases[2], and septic usage will have taken over again.

So just stop it. Now. OK?

I think if you've got (or have access to) a sat nav then it's always
worth checking the accuracy just so you can go through road works
right on the limit. As long as you trust the local plod to stick to
    that nice voluntary 10% + 2.

Well, and this is just AIUI, it's a plural[1], so abbreviating
"mathematic" to "math" would be OK, for instance, but not "mathematics".
Similarly, "statistics" is abbreviated to "stats" rather than "stat".

[1] Mathematics being short for "the mathematics" which includes
    algebra, geometry, etc.

    Anyway, I didn't want an argument[1], I only wanted a rant.

[1] And certainly not with you, you bully!

Well, that's got to be a first for me.
It's just plain wrong, but obviously that doesn't help.

Andy Bonwick banged the rocks together and they said :
(to anyone) If you have "auto dipping" rear view mirrors beware, they
can change the colour of blue lights to green.

I first saw this driving back through MK couple of nights ago, 11pm
Friday, quiet roads, I noticed a car turn onto the road over half a
mile behind me, with green flashing lights on.

"Doctor" I thought. (I'd seen two police cars go in roughly the same
    direction elsewhere an hour earlier).

As I was only doing ~60 it caught up with me and was only when it got
closer that I could see it was a police car, with blue lights.

Guesstimate that for distances of 200yds or further away its lights
looked green. These were the "local bobby" old style lights, not the
xenon or ultra bright LED lights, they always look blue (I think).
