Didn't get away with it :(

I read the road more than adequately well - I've driven from the A40 /
A449 junction to the M5 without touching the brakes on several
occasions, even in the morning rush-hour.

As for my NIP, that was purely backing off too late for the gradient to
wipe off enough speed before the van got me. I knew it was a 50mph
limit, but was confident there wouldn't be a camera there at that time
of the day / day of the week. My own fault, I would never have thought
about trying to wriggle out of it.

I can see *why* they put vans on there, I'm not going to claim they're
100% justified - if I ever get caught on there, it'll purely be because
I've been a dozy **** for not spotting them.

Nearly 90mph on the speedo, then.

To be honest, you're asking to be zapped doing that on there.

  3. We have different perceptions of risk.
Why do I get the impression you are one of them?
It doesn't actually. I was 17 at the time. I've actually not crashed
due to my error since. My car has been hit whilst stationary though.
Funnily enough, so did mine. But at least I don't have to resort to
riding/driving like a wuss to avoid them.

  4. Good, because I'll warrant I've been riding and driving it longer than
you and have done the route far more times than you have.
Yes, so do I, I was comparing my experiences 20 years ago with now.
This is twice you've attempted a sideways dig, if you're going to call
names have the decency to do it directly. I'll repeat, I saw the van.
I was going at a fast pace due an ill relative.

I did, I knew it was a common camera spot, too.

Paid up and took the points, 'cos I was guilty as sin. I was just
    over-confident ther wouldn't be a van there at 6pm on a Saturday
evening. I was bang on the 10%+2mph, too, having backed off 'cos it's
not a stretch of road you should be doing 80+mph on.

I'm sure the court will see it from your point of view.

    It's wonderful.
That's the one, it was January, low sun, as I came up the slight rise
I remembered the roundabout, not enough time to slow enough to get
round, though I had a good go. The Bangles 'walk like an egyptian' was
on the radio and forever that song will be associated with black and
    white chevrons flying past me.
Oh FFS that's the one bit I always stick to the limit or below for,
even back before cameras, there are numerous turns, a cafe and some
    houses.

Quit moaning about it. The courts are likely to take a rather dim view
    of that kind of excuse.

I'm not getting into a pissing contest about how many times I've used
said road, I've only claimed that I know the road well enough not to go
too far above the limit on it, 'cos you'll almost certainly get caught.

  11. Quit calling me 'an unobservant ****' and 'a dozy fucker' and
    commenting on my driving.

I'm not moaning. I'm mildly irritated that they followed it up when
others have got away with it, but I was speeding so I'll plead and
    take the points and fine.
As I've said, I'll not be fighting it.
Shame you didn't remember that at Pen Craig eh?

  12. It was on the other side of the road, **** knows how they got a
    reading.
It was just after that lot.
    Oh yes. Bastards.

I think you're missing the point.

Ill relative or not, you should have spotted the van in time to briefly slow
down until you were out of range of it...

Having said that, if they're anything like round here in Kent, they're
becoming more sneaky in terms of locations etc.

  14. That's the reason for the speed, not the reason for being unobservant.
The speed I was going (if in doubt, flat out) I simply couldn't scrub
off fast enough. I've had new discs and pads since.
Speeding, smoking, what's next on the 'don't do that you're a very
    naughty boy/girl' list?

It was my own fault, when the NIP arrived I didn't consider ignoring it
or trying to find a way out of it. My fault for doing my usual of
backing off around the 50mph sign but not losing enough speed before the
    known camera location.

Hmm... well I've been known to speed just because I can, in the past of
course - I'm obviously a model citizen these days.

If anything, speeding when possibly emotional due to a situation like the
above is more likely to lead to you getting caught - your mind isn't as
focussed on the road in front of you as it is when you're just having a
decent blat for the sake of it.
Ok... and your brakes are now that much better, yes?
Are you aware of the precedent about to be set by the methods by which
'smoking filth' will be able to collate evidence as part of their snooping
    on smokers?

I'm shocked more aren't up in arms about it than there already is...

I found some of the bits in it thought provoking, like the way the teams
were organised and the structure of the business etc. Oh, and the
'getting your own way by revving the shit out of a ferrari' bit.

It wasn't a *bad* book, it just wasn't in the same league as his other
    stuff.

I'd only pay up and take the points if I didn't think there was any
    other option.

Personally I don't feel any 'guilt' about breaking speed limits. In
fact I feel it's an imposition on my *right to enjoy my life the way I
want* that I have to stick to these ridiculous limits set to make things
    'safe' for mouth-breathers.
