Didn't get away with it :(

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Work in progress, Feb 24, 2007.

  1. I got an NIP in early September that I ignored (80 in a 70, didn't
brake quite hard enough obviously) and I've been quietly counting up
the six months, which would have been next week.

Just got the court summons today :(

Now it's the speeding and failure to identify driver. Much gubbins in
with it to say equipment is tested etc, looks like they're closing
    loopholes.

So, plead guilty and take the points and fine I suppose. First since
the old ones expired in 2001, that's my longest stretch of having a
    clean licence.

A conviction for failing to identify the driver is going to be worse
than it would have been to take the points in the first palce.

  3. I know others who've got away with it, thought it was worth a try,
knew the risks, accepted them. Some days you're lucky, others not.

  4. Right new sig time, then back to the new Iain Banks book, which is a
slow starter and looking to be a bit too much like 'The Business' for
    my liking.

Hmm. I remember you being quite short and having fairly big tits.

Look, tell you what, send me a photo of you in the buff and I'll let you
    know for sure. How's that?

Ah. I'll refer you to a post I made the other day where I suggested that
if you're guilty, take it on the chin. Your insurers are going to hate
you more than they hate me!

You might get away with it but it's work time and money to do so. Most
people aren't bothered enough and take the rap.

  10. That's where I am at the moment, a combination of too much else going
on to take the time to fight it and I *was* speeding as family didn't
think Grandma was going to last very long.

Stubborn old bird is 88 today.

  12. Well I am now, just thought it was worth a punt. Note to self - you
are not as much of a jammy bastard as Champ.

Mind you it is South Wales police, should have realised the gits
wouldn't just let it go away. I used to love the bit of road between
the M50 and the M4, now you've got to keep half an eye out for speed
    cameras all the time.
No way, I'm old and female and haven't been caught for anything dodgy
    for years.

Anyone ever been done for not identifiying the driver?

It's with good reason - the road isn't up to motorway standards, the
slip-roads are short and it's used by a lot of trucks, meaning you often
find vehicles doing less than 60mph in the right hand lane.

I use it at least once a week.

£100 fine, 4 points, plus 3 for the speeding and £60. Minimum.

It's just cost me 129 quid to go from TPO on a 300 quid (*cough*) CG125
to TPFT on a 3300 quid (*cough*) SV650. My car insurers couldn't give a
monkeys about the claim, just the conviction, and the damage from that
looks minimal with 9 years' NCB.

Yeah. Lozzo. His insurers hated him as a result.

Oooh! There's a new Banks book?

Shame it's not more like The Crow Road or Complicity than The Business
but never the less that's me off to a bookshop.

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I will. Genetics are on my side.

Both Grandfathers made it to their mid 80s. My father and mother are in
their mid 70s and she gardens excessively whilst he's doing a barn
    conversion.

I have a suspicion that our generation are likely to be the healthiest.
My children are utter sluggards compared to me at their age.

    I liked 'The Business'.

There're still one or two older ones I haven't read, I think, but it's
nice to know there's another one out.
