Mine's going in for a 12k service next week - it only had its 8k in
August and didn't turn a wheel between mid October and early March.

And a new clutch. Did I mention the new clutch yet?

Bandit 1250 has a major service at 8000 miles where they need to do
    the valve clearances.

All my other Suzukis have had that at 15 or 16000 miles.

6 hour job, so I guess £200 for parts and labour ain't too bad.

Although the GSXR needs it's 7500m service on the same day so it's
going to be an expensive weekend before the TT.

Might sound daft, but have you checked the adjustment, or isn't there any
    one that model, cant remember.

    Oil might help too.

    Phone conversation...

Me, "I'd like to book my Bandit 1250 in for it's 7500 service".
Chap at the dealer, "What's the reg?"
    Me, "FN59 XXX".
Chap at the dealer, "Finally, someone who uses their bike."
Me, "And a GSXR1000K8 as well for it's 7500 too".
Chap at dealer, "K8? That's the toy then? That'll be £360 for the
both and we'll need them all day".
I'm surprised you've managed to sprang the clutch that quick. But I
suppose you don't know how the previous owner ride it.

More likely it's all the cross-town commuting. Yesterday was the first
time since September that it's been out of town, so probably the first
time it's gone above 7k rpm in anger. Certainly the first time I've
wound the throttle on full since I got back from the Alps.

It softens the power delivery somewhat - have to remember that when I
nail it for the first time after it's sorted.

Apologies if this post apears twice.

Acording to my Owners Manual the valves dont get checked untill 14500 miles.

I've managed to download the service manual for the 2007 1250.

It says service at 7500 miles, which is a major, but not valve
clearances as you say until 14500.

Now, I don't know what year you have, but mine's a 2010 model. And
the dealer did say that it was an 8000 mile service. I wonder if the
intervals have changed so some reason? I can't seem to find a L0
model service or owner manual. Will get the missus to have a look in
    a bit.

Hard to believe a modern shim & bucket engine would need them checking
that soon, unless dealers had reported them being way out at 14.5k &
Suzuki issued a notice. If that was the case I'm sure it'd be all over
the interweb though, & a quick Google shows it isn't.

Your best bet would be to ring a couple of other main dealers & ask. If
they say first check at 14.5k, & your dealer can't come up with a very
good reason for saying 8k, tell him to shove it & sue him for extortion.
