  1. Oh yuss. I know folk that started smoking just so they could join the
smokers for the fag break. Sad really. They were just as entitled to a
    break *without* the weed.

  2. Dunno about petrol, but I paid 95c a litre for diesel A this morning.

    Disgraceful. Bloody rag-heads.

Not illegal to buy, but illegal to sell 'em, thus making the shopkeepers the
    new arm of the Plod.
Yep, because it's them wot's committing an offence.
It's not legal though. It probably falls under the Construction and Use Act
or the Sale of Goods Act. Either way it's not legal for the shop to sell a
non road silencer ON a bike although they can legally and happily sell you
    one as seperate item.

Illegal for the new owner to use it
He'd be much better off using it on a bike I'd say.

I only discovered the change in the age limit when I heard about it on a
    radio interview today.

I've not seen any "adverts" anywhere.

I wasn't aware that we had any ragheads in this government or any previous
    one for that matter.

  6. Now there's logic. Use a driving licence to show you're old enough
to buy fags, but smoking while driving is now an offence!

On my 20 minute walk to Hove station I pass a couple of bus shelters with
them on, a billboard sized one and there's one in a newsagents window.

Having just walked to Waitrose on the Finchley Rd I've passed two. I
counted because I thought I may have made it up.

    They look like this:

Well as this is a UK based group, I thought it prudent to point out that
what we pay for petrol has little to do with what the ragheads charge for
it. It's the government wot sets the taxes and as most of what we pay IS
tax, maybe I can leave the rest to your imagination. Or maybe you pay no tax
    on petrol where you are.
    Hardly.

Smoking isn't an offence and Plod won't pull you if they see you smoking and
driving. If you're involved in asmack while youre smoking, they can (and
always have been able to) do you for "driving without due care".

  14. Oh. What percentage is tax? I suppose I could look it up but can't be arsed.
Ojalá. Actually, I mostly buy diesel - which, as I said costs 95c a
litre. Is this less than in the UK?
    Why not?

It's about 98 pence/litre at the moment. I haven't filled up the bike
or car (petrol) since yesterday when the tax went up by another 2p so
don't know whether the retailers have passed this on yet. I guess that
    they have.

Not only that, but the fuel duty (i.e. tax) is added, and then VAT is
charged on the total, so even the tax is taxed. And of course, that's
paid for out of income which has already been taxed.

Does anyone know how much you have to *earn* to buy a litre of fuel?

And don't discount any money that you used from your (taxed) savings
    interest.
    About 2 million quid I believe :)

I think the MOST ridiculous tax is "Car Tax". That's 10% and is obviously
added to the price of the car and then 17.5% VAT on top.

Over here? About 70% minimum IIRC.
About 2/3 I think, (assuming you're using the Euro) We pay 98ish pence per
litre for diesel, but non taxed diesel (red in olour for the farming
community and the like) is more like 30 pence per litre.

The gov of the day just gave away all that money? I rather suspect they
simply called it something else or charge more VAT on cars.
