Coo, I can hear Big Ben chiming.[/QUOTE]

I didn't chime. I went "bang, crash, argh!".

AOL, although I personally believe that I would have smashed my left knee
last year had the brunt of the impact not been directed at the armour in my
leathers. The survival of most accidents involves a fair amount of luck,
it's a shame you can't buy an extra dose.

If I couldn't afford both then I'd have the bike (and use my wife's car when
    I needed it :)

I don't reckon I'd have drawn blood at all with old (or new) jacket
    on. Bloody useless MQP rubbish.

If I couldn't afford both, I'd have the bike, suck my teeth and come out
with stuff like "Car? Sorry, can't afford one." and then point those who
can't bring themselves to be ferried about on the back of a SOB in a
rainstorm in the direction of the bus stop.

I hate riding in the wet, it makes my rabbit ears droop.

Not strictly true, you have taken the first step along the road.

    A bit yeah.

Bikes are a very marmite thing and you do seem to have come down in
general favour which is a clue but you haven't really been scared yet
which is often the ultimate decider.

Welcome to the Dark Side. I hope your stay is long and relatively pain
    free.

If you do nothing else take out private accident insurance.

I think you mean "Jim Beam". And it's no better than JD: perfectly
    drinkable but nothing special.

There are several better; the best I've had was some cask-strength Wild
Turkey: about 120 proof. Lovely and smooth, but the vapour alone made
    rings on a varnished table.

One of the things I am really enjoying with the bandit are just such
these situations, especially moderately spaced urban by pass type linked
    sets of lights.

You know how it is. It goes to amber[1] and matey next to you goes on
    it.

I spend a second and three quarters to put it in gear and go, usually
about the time he is in the middle of the junction. By the time he is
at the other side I am 5 yards in front and bang on the local speed
    limit.

Smugly and leisurely change to appropriate cruising gear and gently
    accelerate up to 10%+2.

If the roads are empty and matey has a quick motor and space to do it he
will come past you about two thirds the way to the next set of lights
and get slowed to a stop and at the same time trigger the sensor for
you[1.5]. If they are linked to the usual window of -90/95%[2] of the
speed limit travelling time you should hit the white line at a walking
pace just as they go green. If they are not linked then you may have to
wait. If they are broke or matey failed to live the stereotype you may
    have to stop.

[1] A "starting" amber is 2 seconds, digitally timed these days as well,
a simple bit of practice and you should be able to choreograph your
little dance from neutral to letting the clutch out spot on every time.
Mine is still a little fast on the Bandit.

[1.5] Another example where allowing a cage to "Run Interference" for
you is both effortless and useful.

[2] This could change dynamically on intelligent systems at
    busy/complex/time variable junctions.

I am more aware of the risks than you are and also I prefer a more
comfortable ride so I always wear gloves and boots and the bike is set
    up for this.

If I don't wear gloves and boots it is a different bike, things just
aren't in the right place and my trainers don't have a padded bit
between me arfritic old toes and the gear lever.

Who would want to do that?

As I have commented elsewhere, he is not the man he used to be, changed
he is. I think he is in dire danger of loosing his hero status you
    know.

I am beyond simple help, it is charity I want these days.

I am truly embarrassed to say that despite my very best efforts I am
finding the bindit an economical bike for fuel consumption. I am
trying, honest, but I can't seem to get it below 10mile/litre. Mind you
it is difficult to stay hard on the throttle for more than 3 seconds in
an urban environment and then you are cruising/gently slowing for half a
mile. Which is actually how the fuel economy boys do it if I remember
    right.
