  1. FWR are doing 020 rears for £105.
    Fronts are £83.

You can get a pair for £180.

Anyway, your mileage divided by years still doesn't equate to £200 for a
    rear.

Indeed, I hope it works out. Personally, if I couldn't afford both,
    I'd keep the car.

Yep. They're not supposed to see you, you're supposed to see them. After a
while you develop a sort of Spidey-sense, and start feeling superior. Avoid
    equating "superior" with "invulnerable".

The Older Gentleman secured a place in history by writing:
Bourbon rocks a fat one, even Jack. Although an alcoholic old colleague
in Houston of mine introduced me to Crown Royal, a Canadian whiskey, and
that rocks something frankly obese in a whale-like way.

Is there any way that I can delete this bit from Usenet? If SWMBO finds
this out, I may be in trouble. :)

I go to the local bods - I can buy tyres cheap from M&P and the like then
pay £5-£10 per wheel or, of course, do it myself (which I fucking won't).

VFM stakes it's only about £15 or so more to go to KC Motorcycles in Hove
and get him to supply and fit to loose wheels. I'd rather my money goes
    to him for several reasons.

One of which being when it all goes tits up he helps out. A recent
example: I went in to see if he could source a pattern brake lever for
the XS he had a rummage in his box and produced a bagged item I could
have. Aside the two *free* bikes I've scored off him and the day I left
the lights on and he came to my house with the jump pack etc. etc.

Alright he'd just had £170 for a pair of BT45s (fitted) and a pair of EBC
brake pads for the Turbo but I'll always be happier giving my money to
the small local dealer/workshop. Basically your local bloke probably
    rocks.

Last time I bought a tyre was in Milton Keynes - was prepping the bike
for a week in France and realised the rear wasn't going to last out the
trip. So I just phoned National Tyres and paid whatever they wanted 'cos
    they could do it immediately.

Modern sports/tourer machines maybe, my Guzzi is pretty cheap (all things
    considered) and does the business.

It'd certainly outperform and hold its value against most £2500 cars.

Err, --Nick. doesn't have a space, but that's not my sigsep, that's my
NAME and I type it with my big fat fingers at the end of every post I
make. My sigsep will appear just below it, which is a dash dash space
    as normal.

    Tax, yes.

Insurance? Unlikely unless you're riding a 125. Even then, if you're
under 30, live in a slightly dodgy area and have a sporty 125 it may
be more. If you want a sports bike you'll be paying wedge to insure
    it.

Mot, costs about the same. Servicing, more expensive. Bikes have
much more frequent service intervals than cars, for example my GSXR is
4000 miles, my car is 12000. When I was commuting by bike a couple of
years back the bike needed 4 services a year. At 250 quid a time.
Plus a new rear tyre every 4000 miles, at 200 quid and a new front at
6000. Contrast that with the car whose tyres last 20000 miles.

Fuel costs, sports bikes do ****-all to a gallon. Like 20-25 when
going for it, maybe 35 if you're careful.

Trust me, I did a 20000 mile a year commute for 5 years by bike. I've
now done it for 2 years by car. The car is vastly cheaper.

Catman is right on this one - lose the pseudo sig. because we ( that's
