Dickinson & Steel motorcycles, Liverpool.

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by 78 CB 400 Four F2, Nov 13, 2005.

  1. As part of my 400/4 restoration project, I contacted DVLA for all the info
they had on my bike. Result is poor photo copies but info that is well
worth the fiver it cost. The bike was originally sold by Dickinson & Steel
motorcycles, Mersey View, Liverpool who have long since gone. If anyone
here has the faintest clue regarding the number plates of D&S bikes or even
an old photo, I would be glad to hear of it. I know that my new bike in `78
simply had the stick on digits on a plain peice of reflective alloy, but
some posh shops had perspex with dealer info below, and that it where I am
    trying to get at.

Nice weekend for motorcycles, but I have a long way to go with the trailor
to pick up a Mk2 Gilera DNA `ped for newly 16 daughter. Another biker in
    the making )

There is a bike shop still on Mersey View, Mersey Motorcycles. TBH
I've never heard of D&S Motorcycles, but I suppose it's always possible
Mersey Motorcycles used to be known by that name, you could always give
    them a call and ask, I suppose. 0151 922 1536.

Right, after making the appropriate enquiries with an owld 'un who I
knew would have more of an idea wrt bike shops in those days than I do,
the guy I rang actually knows one of the owners, they had 2 shops, one
was on Mersey View in Blundellsands on the rhs of the road, not too far
from Bridge Road Motorcycles (who are still going), and the other in
Walton Road near to the Estoria Cinema.

Both shops are now (clearly) well gone, and have houses built on top of
    them.

The answer to your question is...stick on and not perspex. Now,
whether you would be able to find a source that would do the stick-on
as opposed to the perspex nowadays is another matter.

    No problem.)

Of course, then it took me back to the old days (late '80's before I
could get a licence), and the number of bike shops and breakers that
used to be in the vicinity way back then. They seem like ten-a-penny
in my mind, nowadays it's a long hard slog to find a decent shop that
    is local.

If you have a contact with the shop owner, he may be interested in visiting

To see that a Dickenson & Steel motorcycle is still very much alive and
    well. (Mersey View shop).

Wonderful! I'll pass the info on. Hopefully you'll bring it along to
the Scotch Piper sometime during the summer months.
