Was your forumla the simpler, but equally useful, (5354)-1?

Simpler than that, but still, as you suggest, equally valid.

    I appear to get 1502.

Is M measured in thousands of miles, by any chance?

    (Which would make it 3.96250)

Here, have this fibrous hardened enocorp of the fruit of a tree from the
    family Arecaceae.

My original intention was, indeed, that miles should be in _thousands_ of
miles, which would explain why everybody scored a lot more than me.

Not, of course, that it makes any difference to how much relevance the final
    number has to anything.

1/4 million over 25 years comes out around 1000

This equation is mainly based around average annual mileage - first year
    (16) did 4000 miles on a moped

I think there ought to be some differentiation between four wheel miles
    and two wheel miles driven.

    I'd substitute M = (M4 + M2*2)

Unfortunately I missed off the bit where you have to subtract Q where Q=0 if
you can correctly quote usenet posts and 1,000,000 if you remove all
context, like some kind of idiot.

How does that affect your score?

Didn't somebody build a motorised single-wheeler? I've got this mental
picture of a big wheel that you sat inside.
