Brrr. Anyone in the DFW area riding this week?
My gear won't cover down below 30 degrees. Think it's time for me to invest
    in electrics?

Whoa. If you're doing down to 30 you're doing a lot more than I am.
I pretty much wuss out at around 40.

I'm wanting electrics, too. Anyone have any feedback on how much is
    involved in wiring a '97 Virago 1100 for vest/gloves.

Not that my wallet can handle it right now, but . . .

It was 32 F in Sugar Land this morning ! Was cold when I took
my daughter to work in my sandals (in the Expedition). Its about
40 F right now about 3 pm with a 20 mph wind from North.
Suppose to be 30 F in the morning (our first freeze !!!).

I may ride tonight when I get home ! Got new leather gloves for
Christmas. Gotta try them out !

    Thanks,

You need to be getting ready for that run down into Mexico with me and
Waco.. We are tentatively planning the trip for March or April.. LOL.. Don't
spend all your money on all that electrical nonsense.. We don't need all
    that, down there....

Here, you can make your own electrics:

In LA, where we don't need no stinking electrics. Of course, if I want to
leave town it gets pretty cold in the mountains.

I'm kinda finding it hard to justify the expense myself for the 2 or 3 weeks
a year I might be able to use them.

Guadalajara, last week.. In this kind of weather, though, I just check the
air in the tires a coupla times each day.. Have a good one..

I tell you what, that sounds REAL inviting. I was real happy for you
reading about your recent trip into Mexico. And envious as well.

I doubt I'll be able to get away for that long. Life-style changes
    coming pretty soon . . .

I've got a question for you polar bears. What do you do about your
    oil?

My manual says 40 degrees is the point at which I need to switch to a
different weight of oil. We know how the weather is here in Texas.
If I change my oil and ride at 35 degrees, it may be 45 the next day.

How critical is that 40 degree mark?

What do ya'll do with this issue?

  17. I've been riding also.. Darn cage mechanic has my car apart and is
    suffering from spider bite.. (bad).

I've got enough gear that I'm OK on a 15 mile ride to and from work
until it gets below about 40 degrees. At 30 deg, my hands are
friggin' cold by the time I get to work. Gotta watch out for water
spots left by cars running their A/C systems. I hit a nasty one on
the way to work today... At or below 30 degrees, that could be a
problem. No electrics... Get some good gloves and something to cover
    your neck.

Simple. I park my motorcycle between my computer room and the living
    room.

I personally don't think my motorcycle has ever known what it was like
to have 25 degree oil in it. Before it gets to 60, I turn on the
    heater. :)

The only wreck I've ever had on a motorcycle involved freezing temps,
and a sprinkler system left on overnight in downtown Ft. Worth. I was
riding to work, and hit that patch of ice. What ensued was a nice
looking slide, all crossed-up like Jay Springsteen, but when I hit the
dry spot on the other side...Wham! Instant high-side.

    Watch out for those sprinklers.
