    with the quasi offset banking set-up we have, it's the same thing.

    My chequeing account, overdraft, and mortgage all are just different
    aspects of one big account.

    Thing is the more you spend, the more interest you have to pay.

    Makes me reluctant to make any big purchases. Good for sort of saving

    well, only if you spend it out of the mortgage reserve, or go overdrawn
    (the latter being something I avoid).
    Well, yes, but one of the main advantages is that if you do need to
    borrow money, you're doing so at the lowest possible interest rate -
    much lower than a personal loan or a credit card.
