Bollocks to the new riders. Those of us who've grown old and fat and only
use our bikes about 30 times a year need access to those courses cheap too!
After going for a ride out on Saturday for the first time since I went out
with you, Matt and Ginge last year, I realised quite how shite my riding
    is....

I don't have chicken strips anymore, they're more turkey strips 'cos they're
    that much bigger.

And as for riding at a decent speed. Forget it! I was quite happy to stick
at the same speeds I do in the car.

Which, to me, is a very worrying sign....

Glos. do one, open to allcomers, even Welsh people [1]
    search for the Bikesafe website.

I've just had a look at that, 45UKP for the weekend course. I looked at
doing the Avon & Somerset "Ride To Arrive" one down in Portishead last
year but that was about 150UKP IIRC. It was a residential course and
there was no discount if you didn't stay the Saturday night.

    Bad form, etc.

Having read the page more carefully I see that it's not a weekend
course. It is actually held on 2 successive Sundays.

Gone up a bit since I did it a decade ago. There was a £7 admin fee and it
was over 3 consecutive Sundays. 2 in the classroom and an assessed ride on
the 3rd. I assume they just have 1 classroom session now.

Verdigris emerged from their own little world to say
Martyn Hillier has retired [1] and Nigel Murray can't be far off. I imagine
that costs have risen as they have probably put a manager in charge.
Whereas before it was run by a traffic cop who utilised existing resources
and a lot of goodwill from colleagues.

[1] according to his ex-colleague I went to Normandy with last year
