    Nope. The Nordkappers were published.

I was in Classic bike once.
    Oh, and Motorcycle Mechanics.

There was a certain amount of that but, as Henry McDonald pointed out,
if Britain had been running `death squads', a lot more Provos would
    have been killed.

I'd take some convincing that elements in both sides colluded. Indeed how
could it not be so in such a cross border conflict.
As for your point, it had started and was working quite nicely then all
parties decided to cut a deal. So it stopped. It's been suggested to me by
a very well known RUC man that they decided to negotiate before the ranks
    were decimated.

Well good job I said "if" up there somewhere then.
It still means an elected figurehead looking for power and I've little
doubt it wouldn't cost any less than the existing arrangement does

I'd much rather have an unelected person with no power.

So you caused some irritation. Whoopee.

In which case why then do you have an Irish passport, convenience or
    political statement?

And yet, even with those handcuffs, Germany was only pushed off the
top of the 'highest exporter' table about two or so years ago by
China. I still can't believe it. If you've ever flown into HK and
have seen the container vessels flowing out of Shenzhen the amount of
production in that single part of China is staggering. And yet, until
    relatively recently, Germany outsold/outproduced them.

The UK could learn an awful lot from Germany- labour relations for a
start. The Works Council scheme seems to work well with the company
being a partnership between the employee representation and also the
shareholders. However that requires people to want to work hard and
be successful... I guess that's the problem with the Brits.

Forgive me because I may be wrong here, but hasn't the Irish State in
the past turned a blind eye to the activities of the IRA/INLA/whatever?

I turned down the opportunity to scribble something for a bike magazine
earlier this year because I decided the money on offer wasn't enough to
    compensate for the hassle involved.

They weren't. The opportunity was there but we knocked it back.
Some of us made Bike Magazine a couple of years ago. Pure toilet
    paper...

There was a bit about me in Motorrad a few years ago, but not speaking
the lingo I've no idea what it said, other than something about me
    liking tunnels.

  10. I had my photo taken by a real MCN photographer when on my way to the deep
west during the time of The Great Eclipse. Dunno if it ever got published
and had it not been for the fact I was traveling in the company of a
really fit burd I doubt it would have either.

  11. That just proves what us proles have been saying since they first invented
    conscription:- Peace *is* Profit.

While we and the frogs and the dutch and the belgians and all those other
old colonial powers were still sending armies out to Africa and the
pacific basin to kill wogs at enormous expense the Germans were able to
invest in rebuilding their broken industry and infrastructure (with the
financial help of that nice Mr Marshall) and sell to the newly emerging
European market through what eventually became the EU. Same thing
happened in Japan as well. Not being allowed to fight they spent their
money on improving their lot generally.

You're wrong. For example, Provos who got out early under the GFA in
Ireland had done more time than Provos in NI who did a full sentence.

The IRA is politically a bigger threat to the Republic than to the UK.

It's not the irritation: it's the kind of irritation.
    Both, plus a bit.

Remember riding over those rivers/canals in Germany. Endless lines of
    barges.
Sheesh how many times have a said same in this NG. We seem to be obsessed
    with trying to reinvent wheels.

However that requires people to want to work hard and

It's treading a very fine line, that's what it is. The border counties on
the South were up to their necks in it
