    What about it?
The problem with people who say `look forward' is that they often mean
`ignore the wrongs we have done'.
What's unpalatable about President McAleese (assuming you mean her and
    not Prince Philip)?

    We were the other side.
A republic would not necessarily mean giving more power to a Prime
Minister, or even to a President: think Germany and Ireland, rather
    than the US or France.
If it had passed off with the abuse (which was foam-flecked madness),
it wouldn't have been a waste time. Given the show that was put on, up
to and including the burning of a flag by `patriots' who only knew one
line of their own national anthem, I think it was a resounding
    success.
I was born here, pay my taxes here, vote here, and help educate the
country's youth: it is my business.

Yes, but your account of breaking the speed limit for eleven and bit
    hours is pure fiction, no?

I had a letter published in SB, back in the 1970s. Does that count?

I had an article published in Motorcycle Sport about my 'Bitza Trio'. No
payment though so perhaps it doesn't count. Though I assume TBC's was a
submission to a learned journal rather than the motorcycle press as
    such.

I did the graphics for my parent's ads in the VOC magazine & Classic
Bike. I doubt that counts either.

I had some of my scribblings published in Bike, but it did go via TOG.

    Does that count?

What did you think of it all. Obviously.
Well both sides have little option but to shelve the respective wrongdoings
and move on. Or squabble forever. Isn't that the point.

  12. You really think so? I think you know nothing about the quality of
leadership we get in the Labour Party in these parts. They just cannot
stop themselves and the Tories bless them precedent minded as ever are
always happy to continue what others have started.

Running under a political system devised by the merkins after WW2
specifically so that no one group could ever achieve a majority in their
parliament and thus the country would always be second rate and never
bother the Great Powers with their petty little expansionist ways ever
    again.

A country with the one claim to fame that the majority of it's citizens
would rather leave than stay and fix whatever might be wrong with it and
those who remain are culturally even more retarded than yer average
    Muslim.

Please, if you are going to offer ways for we British to run our country
in the future then at least don't take the piss.

I haven't heard the speech. As for the visit, I'm fairly
indifferent. She is the head of state of Ireland's only real neighbour
and she's entitled to respect as the representative of the UK but the
servility from the Irish side was disappointing, although the sight of
the country's leading monarchists whinging about not getting to meet
her did cheer me up slightly. The visits were all obviously symbolic,
but talking up the symbolism misses the point a touch.
What do you mean by `both sides'? The Irish state has not carried out
the crimes against the UK that the UK has against Ireland.
So what's so unpalatable? I'm no fan, but she's a figurehead and no
more. Better a president than a queen.

Hmm, interesting. The Puig screen I fitted to the Shiver prior to the
French Run does actually seem to take some pressure off the neck muscles
when riding on the motorway cf. the very low item it came with. I did,
however, notice some weird acoustic effects at speeds I don't usually
    maintain for long IYSWIM.

    I'm sure it's on YouTube
People/state/organisations. I'm not going to split those hairs.
The problem with electing heads of state is you get people who might look
much as politicians. I rest my case.

It's important to in this case: too many lazy people like to confuse
the Irish state with the Provos et al.
I'm not sure that sentence parses.

In much the same way as people like to confuse the UDA with the British
    Govmint.
Obviously there was significant sympathy and collusion all round.

The UDA were legal for a long time in the UK; the IRA never was in
    Ireland.
    Actually, there wasn't.

You think the Stormont worthies and the RUC did not work to target and
    execute IRA operatives then?
