Is this demo against a particular protest
or against protests in general?
Is this demo in fact a protest against itself?

This is an interesting point - does air respect international
boundaries? At what level does it consider the state to have changed
- could you, for example, have gone to Wales in order to breath
different air. Perhaps air will recognise local administrattions, so
all you needed to do was stay in a different county, or even a
different parish.

I feel a PhD funding application coming on.

The question is whether the set of protests against which you are
protesting includes your protest.

'The' is the definite article, and implies a specific item. The Protests.
Compare with 'Protests', in general.
