No chance on the Milan. I'd have to find a 25 zone.

Some would say that driving at 85 in a 50, presumably urban street, _is_
    driving like and idiot John.
I think that kids should be able to play in the street they live in and the
cars should avoid them. That was the case when I was a kid. And yes, there
were cars then. They just didn't have right of way over small children. We
played cricket in my street for six months of the year, raced home-made
un-braked carts down the hill. Nobody ever ran any of us over. Parents
weren't worried about us because it was safe to play in the street and there
was nowhere close we could play cricket.

AH come on man , in the last 50 years traffic even in a "quite"
neighborhood has increased markedly along with associated driver
problems , even more damning now is the fact if you leave a child
unattended for moments someone may well steal them .

My daughter has had a motor-velocipede licence for many years and is now
hankering for a H-D (What did I do wrong?).

It's the Janet bit. I can't hear the name Janet without it bringing to mind
    Rocky Horror.
    Ta mate.

  9. I'm with you. In neighbourhoods where children play I ride dead slow;
even slower if I actually see them on the road.

  10. I don't think the possibility of children being stolen is a good reason
to speed in the back streets.

  12. / the kid wandered onto the road ? What
Alas, it's rather hard to legislate to stop a kid wandering onto a road.
Much easier to inconvenience millions of drivers than some kids parents.

I don't know if this is a Victoria only TV ad(TAC ad), but it shows a
driver going along at 5k over the limit, when some stupid bitch walks
straight out in front of the car and is hit. The policeman
investigating the scene then does a 'what if we changed one thing',
which just happens to be 5kph less. The car still hits the bitch, but
    only knocks her down. http://www.tacsafety.com.au/index.html

I personally think they should have changed 'one' other thing from the
following list. (feel free to add some more)
    a) the stupid bitch looks to see if there is a car coming before
stepping onto the road. (obvious, unless she was blind)
    b) the stupid bitch gets a trained seeing eye dog. (she may have been
    blind)
    c) they put a pedestrian barrier up to prevent stupid people from
walking directly out onto the road.
    d) they put in an underpass/overpass for stupid people.
    e) they get some thugs to ambush the stupid bitch and break her legs so
she can't step out onto the road.
    f) they get a large, hungry carnivore to chew her legs off, so she can't
    step out onto the road.
    g) ....

    Don't go there, man.

I don't agree with speeding being used as an excuse for raising
revenue, but there definately is a need for people to slow down in
    general.

I'm assuming that you don't have your own kids, or you'd realise that
even if you're the most diligent parent, there's always a chance that
    something like this can happen.

The simple fact remains that if the driver was doing 50, he would have
been able to stop. The ads on TV aren't bullshit, it really happens.

And YES, I do speed myself. I know I'm not innocent, but when someone
you know gets killed, and it's exactly like the TV ads describe, you
start to think that perhaps there's some truth in it.

You must be young. Cops have nothing better to do than lurk in the dark, waiting for
    evildoers to flash past.
    Nearly.

Your only realistic options are to take it on the chin, or to delay proceedings by "elect to
have the matter heard in court", then quickly convert to an interstate licence. No
    guarantees, but.

Oh, and write 1000 times, "every shadow hides a cop".

ours was a clay hole hewn from dry and very hard ground which was rarely
filled with more than 2" or muddy overflow from the septic ( and we
    didn't get that until 1958
