The 650 seems a pretty decent bike, Blondie has one, I doubt the 1000 would
be worth the hassle to change.
A nice safe BMW for you Sir I think.

Decent, but uninspiring. I don't think you saw just how hard I had to
thrash it in France a few weeks ago. The thou looks like more of the
same, but with roughly 50% more power and torque. Still woeful, which
explains why it's fairly cheap to insure, but can't do any harm.

I bet the 1000 wouldn't need a lot of work to release a few more horses than
it comes with as standard either.

Nutter is the perfect description and I was sure he'd be your kind of bloke.

I just Googled his name (EJ Potter) and got LEATHERED with hits. The first
page shows him on his bike (in the 60's, not the 70's like I
    miss-remembered), but the ****'s wearing a lid.

    Worth a squizz.

My TL100S made 113bhp at the back wheel with open cans on, IIRC the SV1000
was a couple more than that but a complete hoot to ride and faster than the
prillys/firestorms and the like of the same age... and don't forget the
    noise <whimper>

Wimper indeed. I'd have an SV just for the noise, but what with the "new and
improved" road policing, it'd likely be confiscated for causing alarm with
    open pipes:)

I don't think this issue can go any further without me embarrassing
myself. I got a long thread for a delurk though, I feel quite proud.

How does noob etiquette work for ride-outs? are allcomers welcome even if
slow as anything? I should have a bike within the month and will be
itching to go places and meet souls that can corrupt me into the correct
ways of the road (I need to learn to filter)

  12. You've got far more balls than me. I've been riding for a few years, but the
idea of riding out with ukrm doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy. Main reason
being that any mishaps or less than heroic riding will be taken the piss out
of for all time, until kingdom come (whatever that is).

But then as a girl, they'll probably be all cheesy to you, "Need a hand
getting that thing off its centre stand?" etc.

cat banged the rocks together and they said :
Depending what part of the world you live in there are (very semi at
the moment) regular runs starting from Aylesbury and another starting
from South Mimms services or summat near the M25.

There's also northern runs, but the leaderette ran away with some blerk
    to Wales.

There's loads of folks here that will show you what filtering is all
about. Not me - I'm a lane diver, myself: I don't do urban.
"Hey, darlin' - wanna hand with that big bike, sweetheart?"

Your old Thunderace is doing sterling service ferrying a squaddie
backwards and forwards between his family in Wiltshire and his base in

apparently the 'Ace was getting close to going round the clock.
