    Do they test you on things like that nowadays? Looks like they're looking
    for things to find if they do.

    And on the other hand, someone could well tell you NOT to buy a bike that
    isn't seen on every street corner in London or the SE, simply bcause it's
    not.

    yep, it's this new exciting maintenance thing, if you go past a test
    center you can usually see a car with the bonnet up and someone pointing
    at bits inside.

    They have a small range of questions. I think the traditional questions
    are pillion related, and asked at the end of the test. I got one of those.
    The maintenance ones are asked at the very start of the test, before
    riding away. Tire wear, head race bits and bobs, chain, light checks...
    very very basic by all accounts. I didn't get any feedback about those
    bits actually, thinking about it. I guess it just makes driving knackered
    vehicles that bit less excusable.

    My SV650 is tall, I'm on tip-toes on it. Avoid the K3 model and go for
    an earlier curvy one or a later than K3 model. They dropped the seat
    height by 40mm for the 2004 K4 onwards ones.

    Quite right too! The other consideration is whether you're strong
    enough to pick up a larger bike - because you will drop it, and
    probably more than once. There again, you can usually find someone to
    help.

    Someone else has already suggested a Thundercat. I reckon that's worth
    a look.

    Mount bike, start engine, engage 1st gear, sit down hard at the same
    time as letting the clutch out, small squeak from rear rubber and off
    you go.

  14. I agree with Colin's inference, the 500 was so much easier to ride than the
    125 I had for a year before. Better brakes etc. I struggled to go slow and
    tight round mini roundabouts etc, but once I got the hang of the slow-speed
    control, I was in the zone.
    Indeed you don't. If you get one now you'll forget all you've learnt about
    riding the big bike by the time you upgrade.

    I wasn't so much suggesting it as sitting on the fence, Thundercat, Diversion,
    Bandit, whatever, if I mention a few one might be okay. I looked at the stats

    I'm a bit jealous of your Thunderace, would love to have a go on one,
    one day. Indeed, in the worst case, if Lozzo's assessment of my bike is "Nah
    mate it's bent", it's the only step-up that I might actually take[1] rather
    than look for another Cat.

    [1] Thoughts of an SP1 are now truly out of my head. Thoughts of a ZX-9R are
    still in my head, a bit.
