Decent Wrecker wanted

I can't find a bloody wrecker that either has a left fork leg for a
Hyosung GT250, and / or returns calls or messages.. besides spending
about 300 less than I've been quoted and risking buying what I need off
the net from Korea .. after this length of time progress on even FINDING
the bits I need is roughly zero.

Today after about 7 weeks I finally got told my fork leg cracked when it
was attempted to be straightened and have a "nice" figure of $1200 to
order a new one. Considering that at most the bike's worth 3K it's not
cost effective to order a new leg,

After being off the road this long expecting it would "probably" work
and then being told it didn't is kinda frustrating, I just want to be on
the road. Does anyone have contact details for a wrecker that at least
    returns calls or emails ?

At least the bike still starts first go I guess but that does no damned
    good when it's on bricks.

I suspect I may be able to get a 'matching' part from a different bike
but I have stuff all idea about what would fit or be suitable etc.

ID Name Mfg Part # Alpha Part #
    10 DAMPER ASS`Y, front fork L 51220HM8102 HS21937

It's the whole thing, from the axle up to the triple clamps or whatever
    they're called.

    Any genuine assistance appreciated.

    Thanks Smiley !

I presume if I go that way, replace both legs obviously ? :)

Are the mounting brackets for brake assemblies the same on various
brands or are they all proprietary ? From what I can tell (limited
knowledge admittedly) the bottom that has the axle bit and brake mount

Which bit is broken? The tube, or the slider?

The tube is the shiny tube bit, the slider is the bit the axle goes
    through. (not upside-downers are they?)

If it's the slider then take a cardboard template of your slider's
brake mounts with you to check them against the possible sliders.

    Else take the brake itself.

If the brake mountings are different, then it is often possible to
make a bracket to fit the old brake, usually hand carved out of thick
    ally sheet.

NOt that many Hyosungs about so I second findapart.com.au

replacing a whole front end is not cheap. You also need to match fork
tube diameters so they fit in the triple clamp properly, and fork tube
lengths. Sometimes it's easier to take the whole damn front end, and
get a fabricator to match the stem on the triple clamp to your bike's
    steering head.

If it is the fork tubes that are done in then that's a little easier,
although getting an unbent one that a wrecker will sell without the
rest of the bits could be hard. You'll need to measure diameter and
    length.

Hey Zebee thanks for all that, logical stuff but not things a repairing
    n00b would think of :)

Far as I understand the tube's the part that cracked, but all up it had
a 'banana' bend (ie all curved rather than a 'bent here only' bend) so
it could've been either, or both. I didn't think to ask once I'd spoken
    to the mechanic :(

Basically they're upside down - the gold / tube / thickest part is at
the top, with a bolt holding a disc over the top, a rubber seal at the
bottom then the thinner stainless steel-like bit that goes in and out
(ooer!). The other end of it vanishes into the wheel / brake mount by
some nefarious means (I see no bolts or anything) which is an alloy
looking bit with the brake mounts, pinch bolts and axle hole (teehee). I
can understand how to get the top and bottom apart but I see no way I
could get the wheel mount off.

It's not just the front end .. somehow I also managed to kill the rear
brake light lens and the plastic body under the pillion seat.. dent the
tank .. obliterate the speedo.. you know .. :)

My damned knees click every time I get up now, so I know who came off
    best in the accident !

Yeah I did that, but all up even with the septic $ being as low as I'd
seen it, the total came over as $1021au (incl $200us shipping).
Apparently since it's coming in from OS I get to pay 23% import duty
then 10% gst on top .. which works out roughly 300 less than the quote I
got from my local dealer which doesn't come with the 'will I see my
parts' worry. I have the site bookmarked it was richardhyosung or
    similar in Korea.

That said I can pick up a single leg for $350septics from there.. I
asked at the time but someone said the site played music so it was
    evil.. or similar :)

Well...if the value of the item being mailed to you is under a grand,
you have a good chance of not having to pay any extra tax or duty.

There are no guarantees, but.... I'd try to keep an order down to under
    $600 Ozzie, total.

Dunno about Korean postage, but I'd be surprised if it's as expensive as
    the yanks.

Your local dealer may remove the "will I see the parts" worry, but may
give a "when will I see my parts" worry instead.

    regards,

OK so it's an upside downer.

However... there is still a chance you can replace the tube - I'm not
familiar with upside downers, but tubes is tubes as far as I know.

You'll need diameter and length. Then you visit every wrecker you can
physically reach looking for other upside down forks.

It's a rare bike alas... so not many bits.

Start hunting the classifieds for another whole bike.

Thanks - I tried the number I have for Hyosung in NSW and it rang 3
times then said it wasn't connected .. :(

Not sure what you mean by wrecking the bike then .. oh, ha ! Probably
right they are a tad on the pricey side but then again all parts
purchases are the same, cars or bikes.. !

Nah, the only Hyosung parts in demand on the 2nd hand market are forks.
