Decent summer gloves

Anyone recommend me some decent summer gloves. My criteria is they
must not look gay & they must protect my hands. AS seem to feature a
lot in mags, but mags can be crap. I'm getting all my gear together for
next summer as it's cheaper now.

After the Frank Thomas incident I felt it best to ask around first.

I've got the £20 jobs from Hein Gericke. Comfortable and have not fallen
apart in the 2-3 summers that they have been used.

For wet summer days I've got a pair of Alpine Stars cordura & neoprene
jobs. They are superb as far as waterproofing goes. I use them as winter
goves too in conjunction with heated grips. As I said in a post in another
thread, this combination is much better than wearing thick winter gloves.

I haven't crashed wearing either so **** knows what protection they offer.

I've no idea if they make me look gayer than normal. If you find a pair
that will guarantee me being approached by leather clad men seeking sexual
    favours do let me know...

hehehehehehe - no offence to gays of course, it was meant in a jolly
kind of way. However, if i do find some gloves that make me more
attractive to men, I'll let you know right away. In fact, you can have
    'em! :)

I'm not into spending silly big bucks on gloves as I lose the fuckers
all the time, in fact, I once lost a boot too. Probably one of those
you see at the side of the road & think 'you would notice if you lost a
    boot or shoe surely?'

The Gericke shop in Bradford has shut down, I'll go to Bradford
Motorcycles or BFM, see whats happening.

The Gericke in Leeds?, and just across the road is J&S.

<thinks> Hmmm, every time I go to Gericke in Leeds, I end up in
    Maplins</thinks>

Be warned, there is a Maplins next door.

I bought some from Heinz Gherkin for about 80 quid a couple of years
ago. They're comfy and did a bloody good job of protecting my hands when
I came off last year. Mine aren't the most tasteful colour scheme (I
needed some gloves in a hurry after my previous set disintegrated, they
were generally available in more sober colours), but they do the job
    perfectly.

The, er, red bits were a later addition, iyswim.

  8. Maplins are crap, full stop. They are on my special list of places to
start firebombing when I finally lose the plot completely.

Use 3' of bungee elastic instead and you've got a built-in workout for
    the upper body.

They are expensive for some items, competitive for others. Since they moved
toward retailing cheap R/C junk et al, yes, they have slid somewhat.

Still, if I need electronic components or computer media, they are
    convenient.

When I'm down in Sheffield though, I still prefer Bardwells. A real olde
fashionede geek heaven for obscure bits and you have the added benefit of
enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff, which modern day Maplins seem to lack.

Oh yeah, Maplins gloves are crap, but their twofer on DVD+RW isn't bad.

Maybe he should get ones with a string between them which his mummy can
put through his jacket arms so he doesn't lose them?

  17. I have one of those stories related to Maplin that I won't bore
everyone with the details of (you know, the sort that involve letters
to the head office quoting the sale of goods act, them quoting T&C's
and me left with a load of expensive shite that is no good to anyone,
    blah blah).

A vindictive firebombing campaign against the dishonest, robbing
bastards really is the only sensible option, and I encourage any
unhinged violent nutters that may be reading this to assist in any way
    they can.
