I read that as "rubbing your cock with ghee" which didn't help
    matters.

Can I vote for this one please?

Seriously, if it walks like a troll and squawks like a troll, it's a
troll. And all of you who "enjoy putting him in his place" (tm
Murray) are just playing his game by responding to him. And those of
us who have kill-filed him still have to plough thru endless threads
where others, like you, argue with him, with, it seems to me,
    absoultely no prospect of "winning".

    Not this old one.

ISTR the last time we did this, there *isn't* a useful word to
describe "The ones where you read out the letters". So most people
have pressed the word acronym into service. As there doesn't seem to
be much demand to distinguish words made out of the first letters of
other words which are capable of being pronounced, from those which
can't be pronounced, I really don't see any point in not using acronym
    for constructions like "BMW" (say).

Winning's not the point, it's taking part that matters. Oh, and causing
the dull **** to squawk that "fora isn't a plural of forum" when he
claims to be a language expert...

I do, however, realise that I'm causing irritation to others and worse
than this giving the mal-adjusted attention-seeking chap plenty of
satisfaction by reinforcing his ego every time I respond to him.

I guess that ignoring him is the best policy but it really rankles with
me. If I ignore him he'll believe it's because of his 'superior'
arguments and unfortunately I'd hate him to believe that he got the
better of me and caused me to back downl since this isn't true.

If I don't ignore him I'll piss everyone else off. It's a hard call
really; and this is a sad reflection on me.

Not so sad - it's a reasonable conundrum, and really the thing that
makes "trolling" woik. What you need to do is decide "not to care"
    what a troll thinks.

That's the sad thing, isn't it. That it matters to me that he doesn't
get the satisfaction of thinking he's "won".

His idea of satisfaction, is when you reply to his drivel. Then he's
won. Ignore him, he get's worked up and will start throwing the
    insults until you bite.

    Ignore him and *you've* won.

This is, of course, sound advice.

My New Year's Resolution is to completely ignore Des, and to hope that
he eventually gets bored and goes away.
