Dear old MCN's techies

  1. This week's issue, page 23:

"Ducati's 851, developed in late 1987, was probably the first serious
road bike with microprocessor-controlled fuel injection."

    *Snort*

Suppose it depends what you mean by "serious" - nobody ever considered
the BMW Ks to be cutting edge sports bikes. I'd have called the GPz1100
    a "serious" bike, though.

Blimey! Written by Rupert Paul who usually knows his shit. I wonder if
    he did all of it?

Oh well - next week I suppose we'll have the usual bollocks about the
GPZ900R being the first Japanese waterc-ooled four.

Yup. Mind you, I wonder also if the the old Z1000H had a micro in it too?
That predates either of the other two.

Absolutely. Not that I've done (or wanted to do[1]) any magazine work
    for nearly two years.

[1] I finally got an article published in Computer Arts, which had
been my goal for a few years, and after that, I decided none of it was
    worth the hassle.

And that only if you equal 'serious road bike' with 'sports bike',
and the Ks were ridden mostly on roads some even seriously.

I think the janitors I used to see on Ks were pretty serious about their
riding. They certainly seemed to chuck them around in a *very* enthusiastic
    fashion.

  10. The BMW K series used the ANALOGUE Bosch LE-Jetronic fool injection,
at least according to all the googling I could do in 2 minutes.

The later K100 is Motronic though I don't know the date of changeover.
    That's definitely digital/micrprocessor controlled.

special on why shaft drive bikes can't wheelie next week....
