Dealer charges

Looking around for a new (first) bike, I see that the dealers have a
highly imaginative array of additional hidden charges that get added on
to the sticker price. (Hmm, that bike looks pretty much assembled to me
already, so why am I paying another $250 for it to be "prepared and
assembled"). Anyway, is it possible to negotiate with motorcycle
dealers, as you would with a car dealership ? Or are they not going to
move on their advertised price ?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

  2. Well, sure, but he had to assemble the bike to get it out of its shipping
crate and into his showroom. Then, final prep is usually not performed
until the the bike has been sold. For example, it makes no sense to install
the battery, put fuel in the tank, etc., for a bike that may yet spend weeks,
months, or even years in the showroom.
Haggling is certainly possible, but whether a particlar dealer will
haggle depends entirely on the dealer, his business situation, what
it has already cost him to have the bike in his showroom, whether
he feels that he can afford to take less profit from the sale because
you will become a profitable accessories, parts, and service customer,
and a great many other factors. The more you know about these things
the better will be your haggling position.

Thanks very much for the tip about LA Cycle Sports - they have
    definitely the best pricing.
