Daytona vs. Litre Bikes

    Why not just run on the apron at the bottom of the banking? Is something
    seriously wrong with the apron that would prevent that? Seems as if it would
    solve a lot of problems. Reduced tire loading, reduced speeds, keeps the
    rider further from the wall...

    I've never been to Daytona, but from how I've seen it on TV, crashing
    on the apron would be bad because the rider would get thrown out onto
    the banking. The banking is so steep that it would bring the downed
    bike and the rider right back onto the apron, likely across the racing
    line. They say that if someone goes down in front of you at Daytona
    on the banking, it's the only time when you're advised to steer to
    their outside, as they will inevitably slide down to the inside. So
    if someone crashes on the apron, there will be too much chance of them
    ending up on the track and redflagging the whole thing, if not getting
    run over.

    OK GUYS.. LETS TALK ABOUT.. PACE CARS AT DAYTONA...

    thought we had problems with tires, how about pace cars.

    Because you can't go 180 to 200 mph on the flat apron, you need the banking to carry the speed

    But it also shortens the race. Haven't you ever seen Cal Rayborn race at

    Well that's the point, isn't it? To slow them down so they DON'T go 200 mph?
