Daytona Buying Advice

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Sep 29, 2005.

  1. Posted on behalf of a mate, he's going to look at a Triumph Daytona 955i
2002 model registered in 2003,on an 03 plate,4728 miles, FDSH UK bike
bought new from Triumph dealer, extras include MHP can, seatcowl and d/b
    screen.

2 owners from new, current owner only had it since June, bought a 916 to
    replace it.

    Worth £4k?

Anything to watch for on these?

    Cheers

Obv he'll want to ensure that it has the correct fuel map to suit the can.
And the standard can too. But you'll know that.

I needed new discs and clutch before 15000, but I doubt they'll show on
something so young, but worth checking anyway. The clutch, obv, will mainl
show up on a ride - even if they say the oils was fine at the last change it
means nowt. My dealer checked and said they couldn't find anything wrong
looking and the oil wasn't contaminated but the clutch still slipped at
speeds in excess of around 145-150. New plates & springs and no more slip.

The front disc dowels had worn so badly you could move the discs back and
forth as well as side to side by hand - Triumph don't sell dowels separately
so I bought new galfer wavy discs for around £60(+VAT) less than the std
    ones. Each.

And check the calipers too - mine have a tendency to expand under pressure
so your grip on the lever just opens the caliper rather than pushing the
pads onto the discs. Can be a bit weird when the lever comes all the way
back to the bars after about 8 fast-for-me laps of Mallory.
