Daytona 1, R1 2 :((((

Mate of mine is on a track day at Donington on his T-plate R1 at the moment
so I went to visit and to have a go on the Coventry Uni mobile Dyno they've
    got there.

Not surprisingly, he had more power than me - but I have to admit I thought
my 112 was a bit low and his 137 was a bit high for a bog stock bike....
:( I was impressed that the Triumph held over 110bhp for over 2000rpm. Til
    I saw the R1 graph

Prize for torque also claimed by him 103 to 101Nm - anyone know what that is
in real money? Of course again there was a bit more to it - my bike managed
over 100Nm for just 500rpm, his was over 100Nm for 3500rpm....

But, according to the dyno fella and the small group our 'contest' attracted
I did win in one very important area: The Daytona with high level race can
is *VERY_FUCKING_LOUD*. Static, it sounds fruity up to about 7000, then it
screams and from 9000 on it was just a tad on the silly side of permanent
hearing damage. Think I need to get some more earplugs.....

    What, in ft/lbs?

    Dunno.
    Ptuh.
    ;-)

Actually, that's pretty bloody good; compare:

Heh, I *love* the sound of those triples with a fruity pipe on.

Must get around to capturing the video Suze shot of the -12R before it was
chopped in; it swamps the microphone somewhat.

Well, while we're on the subject of Daytonas, here's some questions for
    you:

    * How much does it cost to get the ignition map done? I thought it was
free, but was told it'd be £25 and a two week wait from when I book it
    in.
    * What do you use to seal the end can onto the pipe? Mine is blowing a
bit at the joint. Bloke at the Triumph dealership was very dismissive
in a "well, they all do that" sort of way.
    * Any Ideas how I can adjust the clutch so the biting point is closer
to the bar? Again, matey said it can't be done, and it might need a
new clutch. I had a go earlier, but without much luck so it's gone
    back to how it was.

The varlet known as Christofire did proclaim to all assembled:
If you spoke to Orrell - tell em to **** off.
Call some more dealers, and try some of the triumph groups and sites on
the web, eg www.triumphrat.net . The guys on the Tiger group on yahoo
were on about this a while back. I'll have a look for the messages
    sometime - remind me...

If you search around, you can find the official maps as files on the web
    - all you need is a wee dongle and the software (also free) and play
    round.
My Tig is a tiny bit like that - bollox to it, I said.

Ahh, just got back from a shopping spree... bit late now, plus I've
spent my tenner (and then some) on other things.

    Silicon sealant.
Hydraulic clutch? All you can really do is play about with the span
    adjuster.

Ta. It was the Orrel dealership (the motorcycle centre, I think it's
called). I think I'll investigate the dongle idea. I don't want to be
stung for 25 quid each time I change the can, and after the way they
were I'd rather give more money to someone else than give it to them.

I'll have to have a look around this dongle idea though - 200ukp for
    one seems a bit steep.

Thanks Adie - noted. Through past experiences I've found the Orrel
place is "expensive". Even though it appears to have changed hands, it
    still seems the same.

Alas no, cable operated. I did try adjusting the cable at the engine
end and the bar-end end, but it didn't appear to do much.

  17. Well if you had the bits (there are various things available online
etc) you could do it yourself. Problem is it's not just a question of
downloading a new tune. You need to reset the CO2 at the same time.
This is critical for ensuring the bike runs right. When I first had
my Daytona the pony dealers I used did a service and loaded a new tune
but didn't redo the CO2. End result was plenty of backfiring when
coming down through the gearbox and frequent stalling at junctions.

I took the bike to another trumpet dealers and they did the tune and
CO2 on the spot and it only took 15 minutes.

Well, after looking about on the net, I've only found one (Tuneboy) and
    that's 200 quid, or thereabouts.

I'd like one, but 200 notes is steep.

  20. Indeed, that's 8 downloads at the dealer you mentioned. Far more than
you're ever likely to need in the lifetime of the bike, AND that
    doesn't include the CO2 meter you'll need.
