  1. it has been law for several years for bikes to have permently illuminated
head lamps fitted to them older bikes manufactured before the rule change
    are exempt

    The red one.

Bleeding the fucking things aside, I couldn't give a monkey's.

I'd have a set fitted to the CBX tomorrow, if they were free.

    Any brakes would do.

Eh? What the **** are you smoking?
I put it to you that when pitching onto a diesel soaked roundabout,
which brake you use is the least of your worries.

I've had the misfortune to fall off on diesel *once* in 25 years, and
I hadn't touched either brake when it happened.

Iffy, at the very least, I suspect - probably for showing a red light
to the front. That's why they're getting a switch installed.

Mr CBXWizard was telling me on Saturday of Pretech's new "CBX"
    calipers.

    Four-potters. £210 + vat, each.

Probably snap the forks, they will.

Keeping it classic may prove an issue, after Saturday's misfortune.

I've already been considering the options of streetfightering it, or
    breaking it.

I won't do anything until next summer, mind.

Dropped the seat, in the garage, and it fell against something, and
punched a hole in the tailpiece.

    NOS ones are €375 !

Though CBXMan in Calif. has "restored" ones for only $550. Ho Ho.

Then again, he has tanks for only $900, so perhaps I should go for a
    matched pair. :)

  13. Nope, I make a judgment call based on the conditions. I may put the
parking light on first if I think visibility is slightly compromised.
If it's raining and the cars need windscreen wipers then I'll put on
    dip beam.

I always ran them on the old GSX, to spare the alternator/reg/rec/whatever,
and also on the Trophy, because of the elevated speed of approach. On the
GSX, I occasionally got flashed. On the Trophy, I got rammed up the arse by
a Volvo, in broad daylight, with my headlights on.

  15. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Nidge
Nidge, I realise you hold this as a religious position, and will never
    change your viewpoint. However...

If you had to take major avoiding action five times in forty minutes,
*you're* the problem, not other drivers.

Riding with main beam on is frankly fucking anti-social.

I sincerely hope you get nicked for it soon, because that's the only
    thing that might change you.

Reminds me of the rozzer on a bike who was riding over "speed bumps"

A female in her car misconstrued the headlight "flash" she saw from the copper
and pulled out, hitting the copper, and off his bike.

  19. Yeah, I've heard all the stats before and, what's more, I actually
believe most of them. Yet I still often can't be arsed to reach across
and put a seatbelt on. My laziness knows no bounds.

If I die in a car crash through not wearing a seatbelt you can have
first dibs on saying "I told you so"!
