Datatool system 3 alarms.....

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Doesnotcompute, Feb 27, 2004.

  1. Anyone got one?

    1) any good?

    2) do they have to be professionally fitted to qualify as Thatcham Cat1
    approved?

They're not compatible with iBikes. HTH.

  3. Sir would require the System i3 for an iBike.
How this bears any relevance to me however is a mystery.

I like my one. The only drawback is it can drain the battery - it's more
'intelligent' then the previous versions, but can still drain it if you
    aren't careful.
(Why is it that car alarms don't drain the battery in the same way bike ones
    do?)
    Probably.

Car batteries are N times bigger. Where N is quite a large number.

Don't know really know, but they seem popular, so probably.
I suspect that it's a Thatcham Category 1 approved alarm as soon as it's
complete and left the production line. It won't however help reduce
    your
insurance unless it is professionally fitted. If you're just fitting it
for peace of mind then it won't matter.

  7. And that's the crunch. I'd like to fit one for insurance benefits and
piece of mind. However 300 notes fitted versus half that DIY is a big
    difference.

    In
bear in mind they only seem to allow about a tenner off your insuarnce
if you have one fitted ....

Would this be for one's b0rked [sic] bike or for the iBandit?

A couple of years back, at insurance renewal time, I did the usual
phone round and got a number of quotes. The cheapest one, by about
£60, was conditional on having an approved alarm fitted. And as
you say, this works out around £300. Needless to say, I just took
out the policy with the cheapest insurer that didn't want an
    alarm fitted.

I did however have one fitted on my ZZR600 that I bought new in '92.
All it did was regularly drain the battery.

Also, IMO, they're not that much of a deterrent and people ignore
them if they do go off as most are false alarms.

  13. You're welcome - HAND.

Having said that, I like the term "iBandit", and I'm talking like I
already have one so I present my new sig.

Yes... I thought it still worked leaving the A off, but obviously not.

They do. Mine will last for about a month, max. There is a radio as well
    though.

Mine seems fine, though un-nedessarily complex IMHO. OTOH the bike's not
    been nicked yet
My insurance co insisted on it

  20. all down to battery size and the circuitry within the alarm system

most car batteries are much larger capacity than than bikes batteries ,
cars tend tobe used every day , and reach there charging peek at much lower
    engine speeds

bikes tend not to be used every day , run with lights on all the time ,
and reach peek charging capacity higher engine speeds

if you only do short trips around town the battery has little time to re
    charge fully
