Nope. Just immerse it in water, and cut it underwater. Incredible but
true - I've done it. I'm told that the water damps out all the
vibrations that cause the cracks in the first place, but wibbleflip.

Obviously, you'll need a fairly thin sheet of glass. I mean, something
    like a Boeing 747 windscreen won't work.

So, taking some UKRM'ers, a pint of petrol and a microwave for some fun
and games would be unthinkable ...

    Err ..

I thought there was going to be a video of that, and a write up. So,
are microwaves only tuned (wavelength-wise) to heat water ? was there a
big explosion, or just a gentle ignition ?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

    Any chance of a re-run :)

    Cheers

  12. Heh. Was at a party in the Sparkies' hut in Mawson one night and
most of the boys were a bit lit up (some green stuff was smoked, too, with
the OIC turning a blind eye so long as usage was discreet). One did
something like stand up under/lean on a fluorescent fitting, which smashed
the tube. One of the more lit-up sparkies thought, "That was cool!",
grabbed a dead tube from the dead tube bin, and smashed it over soneone
    else's head, light-sabre fashion. Cue a half-dozen drunk expeditioners
wading into the fun. I made an early retirement.
It's on the same site as the Paris Hilton burger ad, if you can
    get through.

  13. Pete M pretended :
The metal cap is just glued on and has the connections. The tube end
would still be sealed with glass, with the wires poking out through the
    glass end.

I buy a copy every time I get the train to work, and the Saturday version's
brilliant. Boris Johnson's column always raises a smile, even if he is a
    latter day Billy Bunter.

Janet Daly needs a slap though.

  20. I can't really answer from a (UK) socio-political POV, but if you
ignore most of the opinion pieces (as one does with the Torygraph) it's
mostly just news. Marina Hyde's Diary can be hilarious, ElCuckoldoSupremo
Simon Hoggart is usually worth reading, letters are so-so (I imagine the
Times tops them), and the crossword is about the level I can handle ATM.
Oh, and I get it for 20p at the Uni Shop.

for a day and go through them to see what
