So I downloaded some Autechre, and I thought Clipper was fucking
    brilliant, but Dael was crap.

    Suggestions, please.

PS. Kenyon, you got them tickets yet our lad? And anyone else going
    to the TDK Cross festival?

Probably their earlier stuff is going to be more your bag then - I wouldn't
dive in to anything from Confield or Draft 7.30 just yet[1]

From Incunabula: try Basscadet, Bike, Kalpol Introl, Windwind or maybe
    Doctrine
From Chistic Slide: Cichli, Pule and Nuane
    From Amber: Montreal, Silverside, Slip.

If you were going for a whole album, I'd probably recommend Amber as the
most "accessible", though be warned that there's some fairly sparse (but IMO
excellent) ambient stuff in there, which isn't everybody's cup of tea.
    Er, no. Shall I?

[1] of course if you were feeling brave, VI Scose Poise would be a good
start, though Simian reckons this sounds like someone bouncing ping pong
balls. Twenty bonus points if you can pick out the tune!

    I'll start hunting.

On a different tack, I adore the Unkle remix of Djed [3] by Tortoise,
if that helps point you in my direction. The original version [4] is
also pretty bloody lovely fwiw, along with Seneca by the same.
I tend to use allmusic.com as a guide, and hunt out what they recommend,
with a random attack on p2p stuff for context.
Shall you what? Get them tickets? Yes! For the Jazz Cafe thang.
Go to the TDK Cross festival? Dunno, whack it into Google and see if you
like the line-up. I'll be looking forward to Terry Callier and British
Sea Power on Saturday, but given the general air of the event they seem
the exception rather than the rule, so some of the rest might be up your
    street.

    what the grey said.
Basscadet rocks. I also really like the (with Aphex) track "Autumn
Acid" if you're talking early stuff.
VI Scose Poise is by far my favourite track on Confield. Once you
"get" it[1], it's actually pretty funked up.

Gantz Graf is also worth a listen, but again, requires repeated
listenings before it comes clear what it's about.

Actually, anyone vaguely considering getting into Autechre should read
    this:

    http://starling.rinet.ru/music/autechre.htm

"Blixa Bargeld would be proud of these guys"

    [1] it's inversely syncopated which doesn't help.

I've got a small stack of UNKLE sets on CD - let me know
I don't think I'm around that weekend, actually: if I am, though, I might
give it a go. Chikinki are pretty good.

    Well I like it.
Not so sure the neighbours share my
    enthusiasm though.
