Dangerous tyres

What does the FOAK think about this. Took a tyre I bought off the internet,
a pukka Avon, to a local shop to get it fitted. Guy in the shop waves a
letter from dunlop - I didn't actually get to read it - alleging that they
say tyres brought from abroad[1] are in some way different from their
British counterparts and may collapse at speed. Hints that Avon could be
    similarly affected.

I point at Z rating of tyre but am told "doesn't mean anything, they have a
    different internal weave".

Has anyone else encountered this, suspiciously complete bollocks sounding,
    story?

[1] got from www.fwr.co.uk, dunno if its from abroad or not.

I'm pretty certain he's talking bollocks.

Imagine for one moment you got a tyre fitted in spain whilst on a
touring holiday, then returned home, would it suddenly fail?
Yes, sounds like bollocks to me, as a radial tyre isn't "woven".
No. Go back there and kill him, like The Terminator.
co.uk doesn't sound foreign.... does it?

Also Avon is a British company...

So, let's consider the options. :)

May be foreign tyres are intended for riding on the right side of the road?

May be we continental people are risking our life when riding those Z coded
    tyres?
    Certainly, sounds bollocks.

To be fair, he was happy to fit the tyre and I suspect he was just covering
his back by making me aware of what he had been told. I think the people who
perhaps should be killed are the marketing people at dunlop who appear to be
trying to protect their magins - much like the stuff said about parallel
imports when they first started and how jap spec bikes had weaker engines
    etc than offical imports.

  5. Avon are British.

I would suggest the chap is right, if you were talking about some odd
brand bought in from India or Taiwan.
    Utter cobblers.
They are in Kennington - Aren't you in London? FWR are great - just
nip in there any time and they fit the tyres in a jiffy - like the car
    places do.

Does sound odd considering websites containing tyre information, like
Bridgestone's, are the same no matter which country you chose.

Still as you say - probably just covering his arse in a similar way to "ride
like a granny for 100 miles".

I suspect this may incur a landfill tax. Currently £5/tyre fitter.

    Iffy logic. Consider www.bat-motorcycles.co.uk
A British company based in Findlay, Ohio? Are you sure about that?

Indeed. Correct solution is to angle grind in half and put in a wheelie bin.

You're missing the main Arfur Daly market... grind off the direction
    arrows and fit them arsewards.

    Mucho moola.

    flash@work says...
I know Dave who owns FWR personally. He buys his Avon tyres directly
from Avon in the UK, hence his stand at Ally Pally show being
incorporated into the main Avon Tyres stand. AFAIAA he doesn't buy
different spec ones from Europe or any other market.

I suggest that makes Dunlop liable for some very big claims in the USA
and Europe! If you have shares sell them now. All it needs is for
some German to have a blow out on the autobahn and his layers to get
    hold of that letter.

No, it's the French that like onions. They put on their stripey
jumpers, hang onions around their necks and ride bicycles whilst the
    streetside performers play accordian music.

The Germans are all to busy listening to oom-pah-pah music, slapping
their thighs and drinking beer for a strenuous activity like cycling.
