Yeah, I am not sure what it cost him up front....but considering he
has 40k+ miles on it, he is probably getting his money's worth. My
guess is that they hid the true value of that service contract in
there somehow, even if it looked like it was there on paper. Dealers
have a way of doing that stuff.

BTW - Wakko, what did it cost you to get that contract?

"There ain't no such thing as a free lunch". (for those that are Heinlen
    impaired)
I feel unashamed to have those posers that buy this plan and never ride pay
    for my service. :)

I think it was like $1500 or $2000 extra. I'm sure that the dealer is making
money off of those that buy the plan and don't take advantage of it. I saw a
survey that stated that the average Harley was only ridden 4k miles a year
so most don't have them serviced but once or twice a year, I guess.

But I've had mine in for service every week....the past 5 weeks. Heh. The
service guys just shake their heads and laugh every time I come rolling in.

I usually drop the bike off. They have a commitment of "in by nine am, out
by six pm", six days a week.
They do offer free pick up and delivery at the house as well, but that takes
an extra day or two. And I can't have that, can I?

It's a lot like those extended warranty contracts for consumer
products. The odds are that they are going to make a lot of money off
of them. Sure, they may have to replace the odd whatchamacallit every
now and then, but based on averages they make a wad of cash.

LOL I bet!!! How do you find so much time to ride?

Does your warranty transfer with the bike if you sell it, or is it
only for as long as you own the bike?

  9. Fuggin A Bubba, that's the way to do it, ride it for all it's worth and
then some. Really nice to have the time to crank on the miles and then
to go do it, yer a lucky man. Keep up the pace and you'll pull off a
    100K year.

What kind of shop do you go to that you "trailer" a bike and leave it
    overnite for an oil change?

    Original owner only, alas.
The service interval is only 2500 miles. I routinely do that in an extended
    weekend (3 days).

  12. I think he's been riding the daylights out of it and getting it serviced
every 2500 miles per mftr's spec. He's put 40,000 miles on it in less
than a year. Very cool, go Waco. The ride up and back the Alcan may
loosen things a bit depending upon how far north he goes, but that's
still going to be all warranty items for the shop to deal with.

You are joking, right? Harley still uses 60-year old technology.
There ARE no benefits of proven technology. LOL
Wakko was saying something to the effect of the average Harley rider
on clocking up about 2k miles per year. By those numbers, you are
looking at minor service once a year. Not too bad from that
perspective, but if you ride the wheels off of it like Wakko does then
you would be servicing the bike every week......just like Wakko.

Uh-oh....he went and did it. What do you think makes Harley the 2nd
best bike on the road today?

    Let me see.....
They don't weigh very much.....nope that isn't it.
They cost more than twice as much other bikes....nope, that's not it,
    either.
    They use 60-year old technology.....nope
    They handle better.....nope
    They have better quality control.....nope
    Shorter maintenance intervals.......nope
Larger engines......nope, they get beat out by the rice bikes on that
    one, too.
Powerful engines..... nope, a 600cc (less than 1/3 the size) puts out
    more ponies and torque.
Made in the U.S...... nope. They may be assembled here, but many of
the parts are from other countries. Your All American Harley is at
    least 40% foreign made.

Did I miss something? Why is it the 2nd best bike made?

I don't personally ride rice, but I have in the past. Just don't feed
me the Harley rhetoric about them being such a great bike when they
are outdated and way over priced.

The V-Rod is the best thing Harley has done in 50 years and their own
"legion" of riders hated it. They couldn't even do it.....had to out
source the power plant to Porsche.

Well naturally you should be using Harley Davidson V-Twin oil. What
does that cost, I wonder? $8.00 a quart?

    See previous post....

That's funny as hell.. LMAO.. you'd be better advised to save your money and
pay someone to ride that Harley for you, if you ever managed to own one.. I
understand that cost would be much more prohibitive than maintenance..
LOL... However.. to quote a comment from your porn buddies link to the
motorcycle site.. something like.. "a man is known for the kind of
motorcycle he rides".. ain't that a tell all..

See that's is a dead giveaway.. Bikers... NOT.. The "real deal" has always
been.. "if he is on two wheels, he can't be all bad".. Can't say that I
agree totally on that one, either.. But .. judging from the calibre of
trash that I am seeing on this newsgroup, amongst your LITTLE circle of
trash buddies, I sure don't agree with the two wheels thing..

Nah.. best thing to do is to just keep dimwits like you from buying the
product... So far .. so good.. huh Albert ?
You can always spot the newbies because they are all trying to outrun
someone or they continually harp on someone else's motorcycle.. Then if you
pay attention they are trading and wheeling and dealing for another
ride..constantly... I call it "searching".. LOL.. They don't know what they
want.. All the really know is that someone else is riding a bike that "isn't
any good" or has something wrong with it..

Suggestion for you Albert.. I ride with quite a few Harley riders... Peg up
with one of them sometime.. If you keep up, you will find out that the
Harley rider doesn't need all your bullshit electronic toys and crap to make
his run and enjoy it more than you can imagine..
