Biker dies after dodging breath test
    August 1, 2004

A MOTORCYCLIST died today after he failed to stop for a random breath
test in central western New South Wales and crashed into a road sign a
    short time later.

NSW Police said they did not pursue the man because of fears for his
    safety.

He refused to stop for a breath test in Kendall Avenue, just off the
Great Western Highway, in Bathurst, just after 2am (AEST).

A short time later, police came across the crash site at the
intersection of Marsden Lane and Lime Kiln Road. Officers said it
appeared the motorcyclist had run into a road sign.

Police performed CPR until ambulance officers took over, but the man
    could not be revived.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

Police investigations into the crash continue and a report is being
    prepared for the coroner.

  2. I guess "A short time later, police came across the crash site" is a
change from "The pursuit had just been called off moments before the
    crash"...

This calls into question the safety of the whole random breath testing
system. It also sounds like the biggest crock of shit I've heard this week.

In respect of the "We found him later when we packed up the RBT
    station and were heading home"?

Indeed. they'd have you believe Steven Bradbury was cunning strategist.
When they set up a booze bus in Victoria it will normally be accompanied by at
least one pursuit vehicle, usually two, who sit in the vicinity of the RBT,
engines running, watching for anyone who does anything which acts in the
slightest way like they're thinking about trying to avoid stopping. On my way
to work one night earlier this year rounded a bend and saw the booze bus set
up 300 metres down the road, a car in front of me pulled onto the grass just
as the RBT station came into view. Within 30 secs it was accompanied by 3
    police cars.

    Heh.
A couple of years back I was visiting a friend who lives just off St
Georges Rd. To get there I had to turn left just before an active booze
bus. Had an escort. Had to explain to the nice officer where I was
going, and blow in a little machine.
