Normally I wouldn't give the dreadful rag house room, but I've just
acquired the Daily Mail copies that my Dad collected between June 7th
1944 and the end of that year, with a few other later ones such as the
death of Rooseveldt, VE Day and so on. Fascinating to see what is now
well known history being reported as new news.

I'd like to as they're pretty fragile having been kept folded for 50
years and been in the loft for the last 5 or so - but they're
broadsheet so it might be a bit of a job - any thoughts?

I also got hold of his collection of the "Aeroplane Spotter" from
issue 1 in 1941 through to early 1948. Facinating stuff.

    ooohh - jpegs!

That's quite something - how long did it take them to report on the
    d-day landings?

Just photograph them if you've got a digital camera with decent
    resolution - works a treat.

  7. Ebay them out one at a time as novel birthday pressies for those
    approaching retirement.

Oh yes, decent photographic equipment isn't a problem. I'll give it a
    whirl...

Indeed, and even at this time there was planning going on for the
shape of the post war nation - one of the copies from early 1945 talks
    about the proposed welfare state.

    things differently there.

June 7 so next day. The radio news and evening papers presumably

  19. Ma worked at SHAEF, and was waiting for the landing on 5 June, but the
weather caused a postponement. She also inadvertently saw some maps and
dates/times, some time prior to D-Day, and was told, rather severely,
that she must not tell anyone else....
