Renting Cessnas and Cherokees at eighty or a hundred quid an hour...

I've never skied in my life, so most of what you've said is just
    funny-looking words.

I thought puttering about in bigger aeroplanes was expensive until I
met a guy who was into powerboat racing. Bernie Eccelstone could
    probably not afford F1 powerboats.

Try renting a KingAir for 3 or 4 hours to renew your CPL/IR every 6 months.
When you get to 60 it increases to 3 or 4 hours every 3 months all at
    around 750/hour.
    **** THAT.

A publishing company I worked for once produced a magazine about ocean
racing. Americas Cup, all that sort of thing. I've no idea if it's
pricier than powerboat racing, but it has to be in the same league.

No fuel bills to worry about, though.

From what information I have gleaned from various sources regarding this
mysterious skiing thing. There are two main conditions.

    1. On Piste - this is the slopy bit with the white stuff.
    2. Off Pissed - what happens later.

If you never have been too interested in the cold I just miss out step 1
    and proceed to step 2.

The cold isn't an issue. I've just never got around to it.

Or, in other words, too much disposable income per free day. I'm
pretty sure that the vast majority of skiers don't have too much
    disposable income. I certainly don't.

I agree. I think skiing is expensive - no doubt about it. I also think
    it's worth every penny.

There's no real financial justification whatever, no matter how I
attempt to rationalise. So I am going with the I want one and can
    (just) afford one.

I looked into learning to fly helicopters after a recent trial lesson.

600 quid an hour because I'm too heavy to go in the cheaper one.

Of course, there are ways of making it much less so.

Like a annual lift pass at chf640, which we've just used for the first
skiing day of the season here in Engelberg.

  15. Depends how much you go. My local ski area is an hour and a half
away, so I could conceivable ski every weekend from early october to
mid-may *and* whatever weekdays I want to take off.

I skiied more times last year than I rode my gixxer.

  16. That's twice as expensive as my season ticket, and even more than the
    "colorado pass"!

  19. You can get your licence for 25k USD at my local airport, if you want
to come and stay for a few weeks:

It was one of the things I wanted to do when I moved here. For the
couple of years I was too busy, and by the time I stopped being busy,
I'd spent all my case on a fucking big house.
