Daft, but possibly amusing question.

I was informed today that if you add a small quantity of brake fluid to
bleach (or vise versa), a copious quantity of white smoke is given off.

Anyone ever been stupid enough to try this?

If you get turpentine [1] and add crystals of iodine you get a violent
reaction the produces a cloud of acrid purple smoke. The reaction is
exothermic so use a decent metal container and only use small quantities
adding the terps to the crystals.

[1] not the substitute terps or white spirit, it has to be the real
    thing.

Having just spent an hour watching 'Brainiac', I reckon I could well be
tempted to give it a go ;-)

Excellent stuff, I could have a use for such a substance.

Iodine does a similar thing with aluminiumium powder:
Mix iodine powder and aluminium powder in equal quantities, add a few
drops of water. Lots of smoke.

Even better - iodine plus ammonia solution (ammonium hydroxide) gives
nitrogen triiode which, when dry, explodes without much provocation
producing a cloud of purple iodine vapour - a source of much fun during my
    childhood.

Find an old washer bottle from something like a Metro and install it
under the bonnet of your car and wire the pump to a sprung on/off switch
inside the cabin. Fill the newly fitted washer bottle with old engine
oil and plumb the outlet into the exhaust manifold. When you want to
create a ****-off-and-die smokescreen behind you, just flick the switch
    for about 5 seconds.

Bah! fit a spark plug in your tail pipe, connect it to a coil and run it
as a switched secondary from you existing ignition circuit (ideally you
need a SOC with points etc.) then wait until dark and flick the switch as
you boot it away from lights/mates etc.

    Cue 20 foot flames

  11. No, but after a mishap several years ago I will never ever use bleach and
Viakal in the same sink at the same time again.

Funnily enough it wasn't an email.

I was working this morning and my client volunteered the information

Friday night I followed a cage with 4 yoofs and a the biggest FOAD pipe
you have ever seen hung underneath. Every time he took his foot off the

except for the embarrassing way it made the bindit seem positively
    quiet.
