    You may be right.

Heh. Actually I'm currently breaking & ebaying one of the two
(retaining the parts I know I need for the one I just bought)
It is exactly what it says on the tin - a chopped 1950 Triumph
'oilleak' Thunderbird. Complete with a bad painting of an ugly
half-naked bint on the tank in true 1970s stylee.

A couple of pictures can be found here:

That's because there never was one, I was too scared :).

Heh, dunno why, but I kinda like that, it's nicely proportioned and the
    paintwork is truly awful.
    A perfect chop.

  5. The force is strong with this one.

The proportions are pretty decent but slightly let down by the previous
owner installing the awfully brown seat - he had to move the sissy bar
back and now the relation between sissy bar, rear light and mudguard is
    all off.

I was going to replace the seat with a sprung saddle and separate
pillion pad, put a nicer rear mudguard on with fewer holes in it and
'update' the paint job to something a tad more tasteful. But I need a
new tank first, I'd get crucified if I paint over the really crap mural.

Oh, and reduce the oil leakage somewhat from its current 'Exxon Valdez'
    state...
Not quite yet but then again these things are never finished anyway.
It's mainly let down by the detailing - the rat's nest of wiring and
the way the control cables and brake lines are put on as all of them
    are a tad too long.

Quite nice, actually - apart from the muriel.

Get someone to sort the engine properly and it could be low speed fun.

  9. From the side, I quite like that. Hardtail though; horrible.
Can't say I go a bundle on the artwork - was that the original owner's
    missus?

If you look closer, it's actually got a Triumph sprung hub laced into
the rear wheel. Noticeable difference. I'm still putting a sprung seat
    on it, though.
Heh. There's a web board for similarly afflicted people - one of them's
an artist and does tank murals and stuff. Her comment was simply "I
can't believe anybody actually signed that".

I'm plonking another Mustang tank on it as the previous owner likes the
mural so much he wanted to get first dibs on the tank. Suits me.

The reason I like this, is that whenever I read about a chop
or hear someone talking about one. Yours is exactly the type
of thing I think of, ie half finished and what is finished,
not done perfectly. It has a simple honesty about it, and
resembles many similar examples I can remember seeing as a
    kid.

Many of the more recent versions I have seen are too good.
It's the same with kit cars, in my opinion they should be,
at best, amaturish, and in general lethal.

I don't see the point in buying a factory built kit car, but
I am veering off topic here...
