One of our TMRA II brothers called me today.. Evidently, with all the rain
and other pressing issues, he has neglected to cut his grass for quite some
time.. After taking abuse from his bride, he finally made ready to do the
evil chore, just to get her off his back for a while.. He got his riding
mower out, serviced and super tuned that puppy.. went to the neighborhood
Diamond Shamrock for gas and got started..

The front yard went reasonably well and within about four hours, all was in
order.. the lawn was mown and neatly trimmed.. Tommy called his wife outside
for approval .. Glenda looked it over and smiled.. then she suggested that
Tommy should finish up and move to the back yard..

He grumbled about ungrateful women and opened the gate to the back.. His big
old dog, snapped at him and sulked back into the house.. offended at being
disturbed by all his noise and commotion.. Well.. as I understand it, Tommy
was diligently going about his business of satisfying the little woman, when
that damned mower got completely hung up on and unseen object covered by the
    extremely high grass and weeds..

When he dismounted from his mower to investigate, there to his amazement was
a late model pickup.. unseen by the growth covering it..His heart raced as
he carefully uncovered it and discovered that it was in like new condition..

Tommy ran into to the house calling for Glenda to come and see what he
found.. She came out with him and looked at his amazing discovery.. The
little woman just shook her head and told Tommy that he must really be
feeling his age.. Seems .. that he had bought the pickup last year and
parked it in the backyard because of limited driveway space...TOMMY SMELSER
forgot.. Not only that, he discovered a like new motorcycle standing in the
    bed of the pickup..

Holy Crap... Tommy... how'd you forget something like that.?? That was my
response to this story.. He kinda mumbled and said he didn't know.. must've
been one of those "lotsa beer days"..

Good fortune to all of us.. Tommy has decided he doesn't need another pickup
and he's too damn old to ride the motorcycle, so he has decided to raffle
both the pickup and the motorcycle off.. The proceeds will go to TMRA II and
split amongst the different chapter throughout the state..

Tommy is not only a brother in TMRA II.. but he is vice chair of the Texas
Democratic Veterans organization.. His energy is endless and he spends most
of his time traveling the state for various causes that affect both groups..
The generous offer to donate all proceeds to TMRA II is most gracious.. The
only conditions that he places on the qualification to buy the tickets is
that one should be a member of TMRA II (I think that is because of the
motorcycle involved).. The other qualification is that you must be a
registered voter and endorse an agreement to vote in the November elections,
    this year.. Count me in..

Is this like - "You might be a redneck if you find a pickup in your
    lawn during mowing"?

<chuckle> My first thought, exactly.. Knowing Tommy Smelser and his lovely
wife, I can assure you that it isn't a "redneck" story.. You might want to
get in on the drawing, Gary.. I'm subject to buy a few tickets on this deal,
myself.. Although I like my "ride" pretty good, I could always set up
another for a spare, couldn't you ? Tell you what.. when Tommy gets all the
details of this little raffle party, put together, I will ask him to reserve
a couple of them in your name, if you like.. BTW.. that "big dog" that
snapped at him is a Rottweiler ..that may explain why the pickup went
unnoticed for so long.. With a name like "Stormy".. she might have laid
claim to the motorcycle and the truck..hmmm.. stange things happen, don't
    they ? LOL
